  1. I've low carbed succesfully for about 3 years, but last summer I
stopped and ate like crazy and went back to the weight I started at.
I've tried twice now since the start of the new year to get back on the
bandwagon, but I last only a week and then I'm back to my old habits.

I need to lose about 50lbs (I'm 240 and I need to be about 190)

I need some encouragement, suggestions and any help you can provide to
get me going and keep me going. I know in the past this group was
always great for that, I just never thought I'd need the help.
I think I'm going to try again starting Monday.

    JM

  2. You don't have what it takes, so quit now and don't waste everyone's time.

  3. Ahhh yes. I remember you. I used to have you killfiled. Guess I'll
have to ignore you again. You are an idiot. Go home!

  4. Who's the idiot that's obese again? How hard is it to figure out how to not
put too much food in your mouth?

I can respond from the perscpective of the Atkins process:

    1) You did it before therefore you know for certain you can
now. I suggest that you remember how eassy it got but you
forget for much of a change it involved. Call it being
spoiled by how easy low carbing is if you like, but this
appears to be why repeaters find it harder. Think back to
your thinking and feeling that first time.

    2) List the exact foods you started to eat before you fell
off. I know, most people would wnat to ask you why you
fell off and this is a very specific part of that issue.
Half of Atkins is about carb counts that make loss fairly
easy and that make keeping it off fairly easy (compared to
competing plans not compared to free eating). The other
half of Atkins is isolating those foods that cause you
problem. Is it possible that you ignored that second
half? List the exact foods that kicked you off and you
will know what foods to avoid. Avoid foods that kick you
off and there isn't any addictive push to regain.

  6. I can't list the exact foods but they include things like French Fries,
smores, cheesies and bagels. I just decided at one point last summer
to take a few days/weeks off from LCing and then just never went back.
Since then I've been eating cakes and things for breakfast, double
sized sandwiches for lunch and mashed potatoes and things for supper.
Of course, there are the cookies and chocolate and things in between.
Essentially, I went back to what got me in trouble in the first place.
I looked and felt so good then, and I'm looking and feeling so horrible
now that I just have to do something.

Sounds to me you need to pick a diet, buy the latest book, and follow its
induction period or whatever it's called - you've become addicted to carbs
again, and need to shake free of that first.

At least now he has a list of candidates for his addiction.
I had hoped it was one or two items so he's have a small
list. If you eat a bagel then fall off, wheat becomes your
number one suspect. If you eat wheat and potatoes and five
other high-carb foods and fall off, you've got a list of
7 suspects. Better than no list at all, but a list with
only one or two is focused knowledge.

When YOU'RE ready you'll do it. If you just can't give up the carbs again
why not try some other diets out there? If emotional issues are behind your
over eating why not seek counseling?

  10. HI Jim, If it was me I would kick start a new exercise program - I suspect
the daily workout is gone also. While on that walk, treadmill- what ever you
pick, you can have a long talk with yourself, as in why your back to the
beginner level of the work out.

Get back to using Fitday to track your food intake. I just restarted
tracking on Fitday myself- I paid for the PC version so something new to
mess with. Cocky thing is telling me how much I'll lose in a few months if I
stay on my present track-I think I'll stick to it to see if its right!

Next week will be better if you start now with some exercise- I listen to
the gals at work who are having 1 last weekend off before starting their
weight loss plan...that's all the more to get rid of later.

Hey, this is a life time plan. you hit a bump (a big one) but you can fix
it. We will be fixing things till our last days .

  11. yep, you need to spend two weeks eating meat and greens. That'll get
    you back on track!

I put together a page describing the physiological issues that make it
hard to go back on plan. It might help.
