Can I use a bike with a wider tire for more traction?

So here’s the deal. Wider tires get all this hype, but does that really mean they’re the magic solution for grip? Look at the different disciplines—downhill vs. cross-country. Downhillers love the width for stability, but XC riders often stick to narrower tires to keep speed and agility.

What about tire pressure? A wider tire can be run at lower pressure, which might help with traction, but then you risk pinch flats and losing that snappy feel.

Isn't it odd how we chase the widest options without considering how terrain and riding style totally flip the script? Are we just following trends instead of thinking critically about what actually works?
