In any event, I'm pretty sure they don't allow alcohol consumption, and
I'm wondering if he really did drink any champagne the short while he
had the glass in his hand. 'Course, there are different offshoot sects
of the Mennonites, I think.

Well, I knew Mennonites in Pennsylvania and in Kansas and talked to
some in Maryland and they all drank, or could drink, beer or ale. None
of them appeared to drink hard alcohol or most kinds of wine. There
were various things in the near wine category if I recall correctly,
but am drawing a blank now (hey, this is decades ago!)

some in Maryland and they all drank, or could drink, beer or ale. None
of them appeared to drink hard alcohol or most kinds of wine. There
