Camping With Children For The First Time

How about Crowden? In the Longdendale Valley - between Black
Hill & Bleaklow Hill It's a Camping Club site - no caravans
(and I don't think they take trailer tents, but not sure -
faily quiet - mainly used by backpackers - excellent
toilets, showers and a free 'drying room' for wet gear! For

Plenty of local walks, a local hill, resovoirs and a
disused railway line, with a spectacular draft coming out
of the closed tunnel - a joy for adults and children alike
on a hot day

Edale is quite a good place for camping with the little
people. Mam Tor is an easy hill with good access and fine
view not far from the village. You can also pop up onto
Kinder Scout but that is rather more strenuous.

I have always stayed at Coopers but there are other sites
nearby too. Facilities are a bit rudimentary but it is close
to the pub and has a little shop.

There is a good site in Edale which is run by a very bizarre
bloke (que other stories ....)

But the kids will love it wherever you are! And don't worry
about the showers - part of the attraction seems to be to go
without washing for a few days!

There is a fairly pleasant Caravan and Camping Club site
near Hayfield and you can show them the mass trespass
plaque and, if they can get that far, Kinder Downfall
going upwards.

Hi

Try Edale near Castleton. Its very pretty. There is a
campsite called (I think) Upper Booth Farm, which has its
own river (if you're really lucky you can bag one of the
spots right by it!). The kids will like the climb up Jacob's
ladder as well I should think, and you could also treat them
to the caves in Castleton, but beware of crowds on bank
holidays etc.

Good luck and don't burn the sausages.

Thanks for all of these suggestions, I now have some ideas
to work on, and, like you say, try and avoid any of the big
holiday periods.
