What kind of bad things? We like it and always stay there.
Nicely wooded site with plenty of birds and squirrels to
amuse you. Always quiet when we've been. Heard my first
cuckoo of this year there on the 17th April.

Don't go there in midge season as it's unbearable, so it
depends on what you mean by the 'next few weeks'. Also, it
was far from quiet when we were there, but that may have
been a 1-off.

I know of a farmer in the area who lets you camp in his
fields for £2 a night. Very peaceful, but no facilities
apart from a tap (toilets in a layby a couple of hundred
yards down the road).

There's a field in Rhyd-Ddu that's owned by the landlord of
the pub. There are toilets, showers, hot and cold water.
It's cheap, even if the food in the pub isn't. Be aware
though that the midges are ghastly.

There are two campsites in Beddgelert - the Forestry site on
the Caernarfon Road, which is busy but excellent facilities,
and Carn Dhu, on the Capel Road, which is basic, with
showers, but well landscaped. I believe you could plan a
walk up Cnicht from this campsite.

This is based on last year's information, so others might
correct me.

Lots of reasoned responses, but all skirting around the
problem; ditch your [current] boyfriend he's obviously a
total wuss... and find someone more up to the job!! :-)

There i sthe forestry commission site, there is also Cae DDu
which is the Nant Gwynant (Cnicht) side of Beddgelert and
these both have loos and showers.

Other than that there is the field known as Harry Parrys,
which is owned by the Farm Llyndy Isaf. This is located at
the corner of the lane leaving the main Beddgelert-Capel
road at Bethania. The road has no name but is accessed via
a small bridge. The campsite is at the first corner (100
yards max).

I am not sure about shower facilities but I know its cheap.
You can't camp much closer to Cnicht without wild camping.

Midges, in Snowdonia, area pain in the summer when you are
near water. I got bitten to pieces just taking my tent down
in Nant Peris last year. The Campsite in the middle of Capel
Curig has no stream and is reasonably open to the breeze -
should be OK?

When I was much younger, and the FC site was much cheaper
(but still with excellent facilities), I walked from there
to Cnicht quite regularly. It's a long walk-in, mind. Well
worth it though. I don't have my Welsh maps here right
now, so I'm trying to read this from a yellowing copy of
Poucher, but I'd have walked up the minor lane on the E
side of Nantgwynant, to Lyn Diansa, then over the hill by
Hafod Owen (still marked on more modern maps IIRC) to the
old chapel in Blaen Nantmor. Then up Cnicht - which is
more fun by the waterfall between Llyn Llagi and Llyn
Adar. It looks a little unlikely, but is a fairly
straightforward (if sometimes wet) scramble. It is a
scramble, though - not a walk!

I'd sometimes come back via Cwm Bychan, and the Aberglaslyn
falls - but you can look that up on the map.

The campsite Carlo mentions puts you on the right side of
Beddgelert for this walk. The FC site (which, as everyone
has said, is expensive) lengthens a long day.

There *used* to be (some 20 years ago) a third site. Tucked
away in the trees and rhodies, near the above site, by a big
house, on the west side of the Capel road, was a damp and
eccentric little site I tried once or twice. I wonder if
it's still there? An odd little place, but it was cheap and
quiet - it wasn't very well signed, I think. I'm only asking
out of nostalgia, really.

The only one I know of at Capel isn't in the middle but
outside the village, and there is a stream at the bottom.
Does that mean there's another one?

What, the campsite? Well it certainly wasn't expensive! The
bunkhouse is expensive; the pub is expensive; the field is
about par for the course.

Yep, next door to the Youth hostel. On maps it's marked
as a bunkhouse but there is a very decent campsite as
well. Odd showers but then this is the UK! Spent a week
there at Easter - nice site, no need to book if you're
just little tents!

It was reasonably busy at Easter but still with lots of
space left. There are two fields one of which has been
developed around a kind of terrace system which is pretty
good. And you're only 2 or 3 minutes from the pub and 5
minutes from the shops at Capel.
