  1. Some of you might know that I build up bikes for people that are getting into biking but can't
afford decent equipment. Half of the club have at least something on their bike that comes from me
and I think that I've built up more than a dozen complete bikes over the years.

At first I would just give them away but that turned out to be rather expensive and I also noticed
that the receiver of such gifts often didn't appreciate them the way they would even a piece of junk
that they had to buy no matter how cheaply.

Anyway, most of these bikes are built up with parts that have been donated or from stuff that I
replaced on my or my families bikes.

I have run dry on parts but not on people needing equipment.

Right now I have three bikes waiting for components and haven't been able to locate some stuff. For
instance, I need some Campy 8-speed Ergo shifters to convert a 7-speed aluminum bike which can't be
    spread, to Ergo shifting.

If anyone has an old set of Veloce, Athena, Mirage or other shifters that they're willing to donate
or sell cheaply could you let me know?

Also, if you've replaced your Ultegra or 105 stuff with DuraAce and still have that old group laying
around let me know what you'd take for it.

Not that it'll help on your current projects, but the Veloswap thing is going to be at the Cow
Palace on Nov. 15. It might be nothing but a bunch of guys trying to unload last year's XT, but
one never knows what could be found there.

By the way, Sachs sold some 8spd ergo levers that were made by Campy and (as far as I know) will
work with Campy mechs. I've seen those at swap meets for practically $0. It's another option...

  3. I intend to be over at the Veloswap meet. It isn't like I have deadlines on building this stuff.

The Sachs stuff was really off the wall. It looked and worked like Campy but shifted Shimano
distances. I've never had any of them to play with but an old friend had a set on his tourng bike.

Maybe I'll see you over in the Cow Palace Howard, I'll buy you a cheap coffee.

Is Howard an Anglo? Does he like spit in his coffee?

I've had a set on one bike since about '93 and run it on Shimano cassettes - I never compared
that spacing to a Sachs freewheel. But a friend had a set and ran Campy cassettes no problem. I
know people have problems running Campy gear on Shimano cassettes, but I've run that setup on my
bikes since '93, as well as setting up six or seven other bikes like that. Ultegra cassettes are
(were?) much cheaper than Campy. The stack heights (centerline to centerline) on the two
    cassettes are only .010 different.

And reveal my secret identity?!?!?! Seriously, I wasn't sure I was going, due to having decided a
while back (re: ANY swap meet) that I only wanted just enough bike parts to keep what I have in
running shape. There's too many temptations at swap meets sometimes. I think I sorted the last
odd quest I had by getting the LBS to see about ordering the parts that are on the manufacturer's
website but QBP doesn't list in the catelog. By the way, I bet a cheap coffee at the Cow Palace
    is still about $3.00...

Mmmm, that would be the ultimately non-dairy creamer, wouldn't it?

I have a pair of '96 Mirage 8speed levers in very good condition for sale. Must be shipped from
    Europe. Please advise.
