Looks like it's to satisfy the "flat-bar road bike" crowd, who don't understand proper road bars. That being said, there are some useful parts in the "what's new" list, most notably a compact double crank (takes a 34 tooth chainring and matching front derailleur), which means I can conceivable get away with not using a triple on my touring bike, except it looks like it's only available in plastic, which is a bummer.

or you could get a FSA compact 34/50. R U sure them cranks are only available in plastic. oh, er... I see! when you say 'plastic' you mean Cfibre 🙄

Definatly not MTB shifters - these are for flatbar road bikes.

You're right Hip, they are just to fill a strange niche - i.e. road bikes
with upright handlebars, road speed with mtb comfort. See

Definatly not MTB shifters - these are for flatbar road bikes.

Don't laugh, flat-bar roadies/'sport' bikes/fast hybrids, they're selling like hot cakes. People want to get off their slow, cheap hybrids, but can't be seen dead on a roadie. Haven't held the Campag shifters, but the only diff the $himano ones have to their MTB cousins is that the LHS shifter pulls a bit more cable to allow for big c/rings. What about running RHS index, LHS thumbshifter for that real retro, bits and pieces shabby chic, weightsaving look?

BTW, when is shabby chic going to hit bike design? I've been waiting with bated breath for ages - I know some retrostylemeisters have been spotted with woolly jerseys on, and fixies are hip (so to speak . . . yes, you can stop preening now 🙂 ) - chipped paint, redundant dynamo lights, steel spring-loaded racks, all the good old stuff.

Even better, the paint I use is epoxy, so epoxy paint on carbon steel tubing means it's a carbon-epoxy composite.
