A mixed group. Some had never ridden a bike with dropped bars before -- let alone one with no brakes, toe straps and a fixed wheel! Top marks for bravery, though I can't help thinking that it may not have been the best introduction to racing bikes!
Apparently, if I want to use the track regularly, I have to take the next session on group track riding -- in Feb 2005! This can't be right.

Myself and another u.r.c.-er are having ago on the Manchester track on Sunday. I am really looking forward to it, glad that such a superb facility is not reserved for the top riders. How much was Calshot BTW ? For how long ? Manc. is £7.20[1] for adults for one hour including bike hire.

I've ridden a couple of times recently. The track is fun, but the hire bikes are really horrible.
I also rode the old Six-day track they used to have there. That was *really* steep. The final tally was one broken arm and one guy dangling from the safety netting round the top (they have a railing now).

£11 for 1 1/2 hours including cycle hire and coaching. Regular training doesn't start again until October I think I may start going occasionally at that time.

Are you from the area? If so, what do you think of the bikes Rotrax make? I cannot fond anything about them online -- perhaps this is good as their prices seem remarlably low.

Unfortunately Calshot's a 1.5 hour drive from here and I will probably go to Newport in the future (50 mins or so).
The cheapest new track bike going seems to be a Fuji Track: tinyurl.com2kh9hOpen ↗. The UK website is currently broken so I don't know of a retailer, but C+ say they're £299.
The bike is a bit of a lardarse in track circles at 18.8 lb, but the frame is quoted as 4.5 lb which is normal for a chromoly or 531 frame, and suggests it's worth upgrading later. The geometry is more road than track and it's drilled for brakes.
I'm interested, but 48/16 on the road is ludicrous unless it's being used for TTs, so an 18T or 19T sprocket would be a good addition.
