Have you given any consideration to learning Spanish? It's one of the easiest languages you can learn, the only problem being the European Spaniards speak far faster than in South America.
Lance Armstrong speaks Spanish quite well and still lives over there during the season.
My only problem is I can't roll my "rr" and once, when I was buying fish and asked for "otro", the woman at the stall understood "ocho" and gave me 8 trouts.

I am looking to learn to speak Spanish.

The decision was Italian or Spanish.
I have decided on Spanish because it is used more internationally and the demographics suggest that it will be the first language of the USA in a few years time !

But seriously, Spanish is what I intend to learn.

If you plan to travel to Spain, let me know as I can advise you on cheap accommodation e.t.c. There are some good, cheap hotels in the North and you would enjoy the pub scene over there.
I'm sure you'll learn Spanish very quickly. The grammar is very simple but if you notice, Spanish words have more syllables which is what makes it so fast.

I sent you a private message in August 2004 about a trip that my wife were planning to barcelona-pamplona-San sebastian.
I had read, at the time, you saying that you lived there for some time,
so I was anxious to get some info from you.
I never got a reply from you.

We enjoyed the trip.
Northern Spain is a great part of the world.
Pamplona is a fantastic place.
Sebastian "the clamshell" is beautiful too.
You should try the Museo Whisky bar in Sebastian, it's a great place.

Limerickman, my apologies. I wouldn't have purposefully ignored your letter. Probably I deleted stacks of spam and wouldn't have detected your letter in the process. So, next time, just write "Limerickman" as a subject heading and it should be O.K.
I will always be delighted to give you advice with regard to Northern Spain. I spent 5 years over there, ate tapas in the regular bars and know all the areas of Zaragoza, Pamplona and Logrono. However, I would feel strange now that Euros replace pesetas and I would kind of miss the peseta. Back then I paid a mere 1000 pts for a room in a pension which is only 5 pounds sterling. This was before I moved to live with a family so I could learn the language properly.
I recommend northern Spain since the people are really terrific in that area and the food is terrific.

Tienes una ventaja. Entiendo que en California se habla espanol en todas las partes, no? Por eso, creo que para ti es bastante importante hablar el idioma (y para todos los que viven en California o Florida).
Mi hermano se fue a Florida y me dijo que en Disney, mucha gente hablaba el espanol. Y mi madre tambien lo paso bien en Disney.

You're a man who has lived in Spain. You'd enjoy that particular spot.
Whisky from all over the world including the USA, keep in beautiful bottles all round the interior of the bar. Pick a bottle and the bar man pours.
Many of the US brands in the bar, were from Kentucky (as far as I can remember).

As for the Spanish words in your message : something about LA winning, me thinks ???

Yep, drove from Barca out through Zaragoza - through Tudella and up to Pamplona.
Stayed in Pamplona for a few days and then on to Sebastian.
Then drove back the old road through to Huseca and on to Lleida and finally back to Barca.
Great part of the world - must have been great living there, C ?

Carrera - una ventaja si tengo, pero aprendi el idioma como tu lo aprendiste - en el norte de Espana - Burgos y Segovia, entre toros, fandanguillas, y alegria 😉

Mi novia era de Burgos, sabes? Nunca he estado alli pero conozco Zaragoza, Pamplona, San Sebastian y todos los pueblos de La Ribera. Y tambien he estado en Olite, no muy lejos de Pamplona.
Y no te he dicho que una vez me puse a correr con los toros en el encierro (bull run) pero los toros eran muy grandes y tenia mucho miedo. Nunca lo volvere a hacer.
Tu sabes que Lance Armstrong domina muy bien el idioma castellano? A el le gusta mucho Espana y el ciclismo es muy popular por alli. 🙄

Me parece que Lance se defiende bastante bien en el idioma. En su libro que se llama "Every Secomd Counts" dice que todos los que quieran unirse a su equipo (U.S. Postal) deben aprender el idioma.
Para nosotros, es una ventaja pues como sabes el ciclismo tiene mas importancia en Espana, digamos, que en el Reino Unido o Los Estados Unidos.
Vaya, estas aprendiendo vasco? Si es el caso, es much mas dificil que el castellano.

When I watched the encierro in Tudela, the bulls seemed small so I opted to run the next morning at 7.30 a.m. On arrival they tried to disqualify me for running in zapatillas.
The rockets went off and I heard the noise of an approaching stampede. I looked behind and, to my horror, these were no small bulls that day. They were extremely big. I was terrified but you can't outrun a bull. Somehow I later appeared on Spanish TV, shown running for my life.
A friend was tossed by a cow apparently like a rag doll. He never ran after that.

It seems me that Lance defends well enough in the language. In its book that is called "Every Secomd Counts" says that all the ones that quieran to be join with its team (OR.S. Postal) they should learn the language. For us, is an advantage therefore as you know the cycling has but importance in Espana, we say, that in the United Kingdom or The United States. Go, these learning Basque? If is the case, is much but dificil that the Spaniard.
