Doesn't look good for him, does it? Either he says some silly things or he has a habit of talking in a way that ... leaves him open to misinterpretation.

Perhaps the real point is made in the comment, 'My team is not made for that.' Lotto cannot control the race, and it'll be shedding all off his domestiques if it has to, leaving him exposed. Lotto isn't good enough (like Telekom was in the old days) to win both green and yellow jerseys.

I think he was quite content to leave the hard graft to someone else's team, as long as he had a bit more support in the hills.

Drongo, look at Cadel's comments (I think on his website) at around the time of Rasmussen's exit from the Tour. He wasn't exactly putting the boot in -("let's just let us get on with the racing" or something of that ilk).

Compare and contrast with Adam Hansen.

I mentioned something similar in relation to Menchov on the 'clean riders' thread in dpf:

It doesn't necessarilymean he dopes. It just means that he's happy with the status quo - for whatever reason...

Notwithstanding that, I don't think Cadel has any reason to be upset with Alberto Contador. I just think he'd like to be as well prepared for the Tour as the Discovery team were last year - because he's confident that he's a better rider, ceteris paribus.

Since we don't get to choose our voices at birth, or develop them into anything we want... it bespeaks of prejudice that you would judge someone's character on their voice. It is also a major factor in Obama's popularity. Imagine how popular Obama would be if he had a voice like Cadel's.

Having said that, Cadel is whiny in his words without the need to listen to his voice... so I agree with you. :p

No... I think (with Drongo's help) that he wants to win ... and figures he has the best chance with Astana leading the peloton... and not Silence-Lotto.

But it does on the surface sound like he would rather have the top contender in the race than not have him. Which looks on the surface as though he wants to come second again... or at least not be the favorite..

Amazes me that Obama is so popular. The guy is the master of talking and not saying anything. Just what we need here in America...A socialist to screw the country even more.

Didn't see any plans he has for nationalising industry and the banks, etc etc... did you? The man hasn't even advocated a national health service.

Obama may be a lot of things, but in historical terms he looks as centre/centre-right as the rest of the Democrats crew over there.

1. He thinks Contador is clean.

2. He thinks that the ongoing controversy is generally bringing cycling, and hence his salary, down.

3. He thinks Contador doped but he also dopes and doesnt want too many questions asked.

4. He wants to look like a sporting guy.

5. He is a spineless whiner.

6. Combination of the above.

edit: and take out reason 1, naturally. AC might not dope, of course, but that would come as a helluva shock.

Obama is a free-market liberal who would do what he's told to do by his advisors and most likely lead the US towards confrontation with Russia (perhaps also with Pakistan). But, if he wins the Democrat nomination then McCain will be the next US Pres, so it's irrelevant - but - back to the topic...🙄

If Evans was strictly anti-doping he would come out strongly against Contadope, just as he would have against Ras. His new team name (Silence) speaks volumes. He is also being realistic in admitting that his team is at least half built around helping Robbie win the flat stages. He therefore needs to have Astana or another team take control of breaks etc on the mountain stages so there's not another Oscar P situation.

Cadel is not backing Contador he is saying he would like him & Astana in the race. As defending champ the pressure will immediately be on Contador and the Astana team.
Silence-Lotto as Cadel states does not have the same structure of Astana and can not control the race to the same affect. Cadel can use Astana by sitting in on their gains on the road after if/when his own team mates have dropped off. Limit his losses where he has to and make gains where his strengths lay.
Simple tactic, let Astana do the work, then capitalise.

He is not winging, just stating how it is. A realist.
He will bust his gut in an effort to win the TDF and I'm sure like everyone he wants to win it against the current champ.

Didn't he just extend his contract with Silence-Lotto? Why did he do that if he knew that the team would not be able to provide adequate support to his TdF ambitions? Is it because he wouldn't have gotten a contract with other teams, or is he just being a wussie?

Nothing, nothing, nothing beats your own support. Relying on another team to make the race might work once in a single-day race if no one knows who you are, but after that, or in a stage race, if you don't have the horses to pull moves back, put riders in breaks, etc., you're at a disadvantage.

Astana's top three riders could battle it out for GC while the rest of the team contained Evans without a problem. Astana is arguably more powerful than Armstrong's Disco.

Personally, I'd like to see them race regardless of their past indiscretions with performance enhancing drugs, blood doping practices and lying. So what? They were better at being underhanded than the rest. Should they be penalized for it?

In my honest opinion, no they shouldn't. I am not signing any petition or anything, and seeing Bruyneel look like an idiot makes me chuckle, but otherwise, it kind of seems like picking out the biggest cheater out of a room full of cheaters is kind of disingenuous.
