Rode part of this during Bike Virginia this June starting in Harper's Ferry. Gorgeous area, but be
careful if it's rained much before you go. This had been a very rainy June in Virginia, so when we
rode, there were many deep muddy areas along the towpath, and I nearly wiped out numerous times.
Finally got out and walked the bike through most of them, clogging my cleats up with dirt. Those
with mountain bikes/fat tires did fine, but on a road bike with skinny tires, it was one of the most
miserable 15 miles or so in my riding experience. There were also tree roots to negotiate, and
paying constant attention to roots and possible mud meant that I could hardly enjoy the scenery.

If the weather has been dry and you have wider tires, I'm sure it's a great ride.

My wife and I and our neighbors rode from Cumberland to DC last May 02. It was a great ride. We
spent 4 nights at B&B's along the way as we took our time traveling the full length. It was dry

The rain has made it hard to ride in places this year from what I've heard. I hope you get a chance

It's a nice relaxing ride. You have no traffic to deal with. Numerous places to camp exist
along the route.

You mileage will not be as high as on paved road. Last time I did this trip it was at the
end of a cross-US tour and I got impatient with the slow pace.

hi mark, i've ridden parts of it and camped out while doing so. this thanksgiving week my wife and i are riding the whole thing from dc to cumberland. it's a fun ride and wonderful park system. do it!

I've ridden the entire thing twice now . . . Its a great ride! I camped one year and did the
motel thing the next. Pluses and minuses to both . .
