What do you want to spray? If you want to do cars you want
at least 17cfm. Where in Perth are you?

From memory, I think it was 12cfm.

The water trap simply reduces the amount of water in the air line. When air is forced out of a nozzle (like the end of a spray gun) water in the air condenses into droplets, which is no good when you're painting. An air trap is simply a little clear plastic bowl, which the air from the comresoor expands into before it reaches the gun. Much of the moisture in the air collects in the trap rather than getting mixed in with your paint.

The regulator simply sets the air pressure that you're spraying at. It gives you another knob to fiddle with to get the air/paint mix right, so you get good gloss.

When you compress air, you force the humidity(water) out of
it. You do not want this in the paint coat (bubbles,
discolouration, blockages, etc). So you need a water trap to
collect moisture before it gets to the spray gun.

The regulator is just a tap to adjust air flow (and or
pressure?).

what i need.....may have to make a small booth to hide the
compressor in may be see how it goes..

I'm looking for the same thing. My advice is buy the best
you can. Belt driven is better. Make sure it has more power
than you need but not so large you can't use it the way you
want. Most people who buy one say they end up using for far
more than they intended. I would also buy a good brand from
a good shop. Many of the cheaper ones are rated a max figure
that is never really achieved. Any good tool shop such as a
Glenfords should be able to give you advice and
recommendations even if you are not going to purchase. I've
even had them find a customer who used them everyday so they
could ask him what he thought I should get. You might also
find one with dual outlets to be useful.
