Yep, I bought both my bikes in the US when I lived there 2 years ago. Mind you I got so used to riding with the brakes "swapped" that I haven't bothered to swap them back when I got back to Australia. I've just got to warn people if they borrow my bike!

I got a much better deal on both my road bike and hybrid buying them in the US than here - around about 40% cheaper.

i think the threshold for duties is now $1000 ???

if you are travelling over, take a clanger over with you in box
and return with new steed but make it look 'used'

altoh the usual testride etc will apply so think carefully about the real 'value' of this perhaps...

I got my litespeed from american bicycle co rather than buying local.
retail price here is 3350 or something and i paid 1900 (after postage,
customs etc)
and yeah, you get used to the brakes, i havent bothered to change them
either..

I've got a US import roadie and a Aus MTB. Caused a few near misses on the roadie when I've pulled the wrong brake, so if you're used to AU settings I would definatly swap them back.

not at all. if he rides bike or tours around on it before returning he's simply bringing back his bike. where's the crime?
