Bush crashes mountain biking.

I, to, am stunned that bush and co. would lie. They start
out with small lies like this. Next thing you know, the lies
are going to get bigger and bigger. Who knows what it will
lead us to?

This is pretty amazing. Some of it makes sense, in
terms of the recession of '73-74 hurting job
creation during the Ford administration relative to
the Nixon administration, the recession in '81
hurting Reagan somewhat, and the recession of '90-
91 hurting Bush 1 (and of course the recent
recession hurting Bush 2). I suppose employment
related to the Korean war could have helped Truman,
and the Vietnam war helped Johnson. But I certainly
thought the Eisenhower years were one big boom, and
though the recovery from the recession of '73-74
must have helped Carter's stats, I'm still amazed
to see them so good.

All I did was download the data at
http://stats.bls.gov/eag/eag.us.htm, "Change in Payroll
Employment" from 1946 to now, grouped them by president, and
plotted the mean.

To get historical data, you have to click on the cute little
green dinosaur; whose idea was that? If you click on the
little graphic icon, for "Changes in payroll employment"
it'll show you the recession that began and ended in 2001.

It appears payroll employment is up on at least one
front: <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54789-

Funny things. On the way home from work last night I wasn't
sure what I was going to do. Then I passed a cyclist going
the other way and had an epiphany. So I hopped on the bike
for a quick sprint up the Col du Merde and back. I can't
ever imagine being inspired to stand on a Segway and roll
around like some CNC operator standing at a mobile console.
