Bush is an "avid mountain biker"? It might be time for me to give the sport

No if he was a avid mountain biker he would open up the all the National
Forest trails and Federal Lands to mountain biking.
We all can afford our own ranch to ride on.

    Umm, two words: Barbara Boxer

Bush is an "avid mountain biker"? It might be time for me to give the sport
    up.

All politics aside, he was riding his "mountain bike" on the paved road.
Hardly an "avid mountain biker" thing to do, especially in a place
like Scottland with tons of dirt trails. Also, if he were an "avid
mountain biker" he would know the common courtesies that we mountain
bikers take to the trail, such as respect for other users of the trail
and letting hikers pass or move out of the way.

I actually wrote the President a letter requesting a mountain bike ride
with him. I got back the standard White House form letter thanking me
for contacting the President. Three weeks after that I received a
signed picture of the President and his wife. Then came the attack of
the RNC. Now, I get photos, invites, calls at work (where did they get
that phone number from) inviting me to $1000 a plate dinners with the
prez, but still no mtb ride. I even told the guy when he called that I
mould think about the dinner if the prez would take a MTB ride with me.
He laughed and asked how many tickets I wanted. If I had $1000 to
spend, it certainly wouldn't be on a dinner. Am I not good enough? Now
I can't get the SPAM to stop coming. I wonder if the Dems do the same
thing. I just want to be left alone. Maybe it's time to talk with the
Linden LaRouche guy who hands out flyers under my office window. I bet
there's more dirt on LaRouche's prison grounds than Bush has ridden on
    his whole life.

Calling someone who has to close off a 25 mile radius of property in
order to ride, an avid mountain biker does not fly. Obviously the
President cannot and probably will not ever be able to ride the
singletrack that we do. It would be a secret service logistical
nightmare. It's kind of hard to concentrate on the trail when you are
surrounded by secret service personnel and 10 helicopters flying above
you. The fact that he always has to be followed by an SUV, sort of
    limits his ridig area.

OK, I'm done with this. I wake up way too early.

  7. Blah blah blah. Compared to an average person, anyone who even owns a
mountain bike is an "avid mountain biker" Don't see how WHERE you bike
is relevant, unless your some kind of snob.

Mountain biking on trails wide enough that an SUV could trail him?

I would speculate that he my rides more than we know. Not good for his
image to be out "playing" on his bike. He has allot of secure Military and
Federal Lands of limits that he can ride without a security risk.

Politics aside, Chris. I don't particularly agree with the politics of
many on this newsgroup, though I don't let it determine who I will or
will not go mountain biking with. If I let politics rule my life, I
would have disowned my mom, who thinks Barbara Boxer is right in her
    designations of illegal wilderness.

Go ride your bike from Marble to Schofield Pass and back on a trail
that is wide enough for an SUV to follow you on and then tell us all
how it's not mountain biking. BTW, who are you anyway? Obviously not
    a real mountain biker.
