  1. I got my Bullit together today (except for the 8" rotors I
    put 6" on and am waiting for the adaptors) and rode some
    urban tonight. I have a few questions.

    Keep in mind that I have never ridden a 7" travel bike and I
    am new in town so I don't know anyone around who does. I
    haven't found a good lbs yet either.

    I have my sag set on the Jt T's and 5th element (350#
    spring) to 38%. I weigh 200lbs.

    I went off a 4' drop to flat and took a good 5.5" on the
    fork. Is this ok? I would like to do 6 to 9' drops before I
    bottom out.

    I put 150lbs. in the air chamber of the 5th and it doesn't
    bob as long as I stay seated. Standing and hammering it
    bobs. Is this normal? The forks bob like crazy, I assume
    this is normal... true?

    I stayed seated and hammered down the middle of some
    railroad tracks and it was very very smooth and I was
    impressed. Then I hammered back down on the large gravel
    rail road track rocks it was like riding on pavement,
    very cool.

    Ideas, tips... any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Four footers to flat will come close to bottoming out the
    bike. Keep it up and you'll blow the 5th element. Adding
    speed may help by keeping your forward momentum up to cancel
    the downward force. I do four footers off a stage that
    bottoms the fork very harshly. Do 6 to 9 footers and you'll
    need to find a tranny to land in. Unless you like replacing
    rims, shocks, frames etc.

    You can tune the 5th so it barely bobs when standing and
    hammering just keep adusting the blow off settings. But you
    may not like it for bunny hopping. The fork will bob anyway,
    get used to it. It's not a XC rig.

    Yep, because I often hit terminal velocity on the drop-
    offs I do.

    off. I'll shoulder roll when I hit the ground. We'll see who
    hurts more the next day.

    Its about impulse more than anything - with the right
    technique its a lot easier to get a smooth, soft landing
    with some momentum than a straight down drop. Transitions
    help this even more with vector force angles and shiznit
    like that.

    That's what I was trying to say. I should've said "cancel
    SOME of the downward force". It's just that to me hitting a
    drop to flat with speed 'feels' less harsh on the landing.

    Yep, with some speed and dropping rear wheel first you can
    slow your momentum a bit as you let the front wheel drop.

    But with drops, it's about vectors. 235 lbs with a 90 degree
    vector is a lot different than the same mass with a 45
    degree vector.

    The vertical component is still the same whether your
    dropping at 90 degrees or 45 degrees. It's the way that you
    land that is important because it takes some of the impact
    off of the drop. Trials riders can do some sick drops to
    flat on full rigid trials bikes because they know how to
    break their fall.

    Is this really true? I have been hitting the same drop as a
    test for any new bike or spring/fork/shock. I have never had
    a problem with any fork or shock (psylos with 3 diff springs
    kits, marz drop off, 2 different fox coil overs and the now
    5th) with no problems. The drop is from one parking lot to
    another and in case I knock any teeth out it is behind my
    family dentist!

    Once in awhile a paitient in the chair gets a surprise by me
    riding by the window and dropping off! This happened last
    week when I was testing the Bullit.

    So anyway c'mon the 5th has got to take more than a fox coil
    over (2000 i-Drive)??? Right??
