They sell individual 7-speed sprockets for 3 euros each, and they list a
13-34 7-speed HG70 cassette for 17 euros:

13-15-17-20-24-29-34

They're also particularly good for dynamo lighting components and spokes.
There's a flat 12 euro postage charge, but If you have other items to order
you may come out ahead.

rebuilding in different combinations. Basically are they held by pins
like Shimano so they can come apart?

Question - does she use the "13". If not, perhaps 14 or 15 top might be OK.
That would open an option of a "normal" 13-28, and reduce the size of the
chain ring.

That's a standard cassette, has been readily available for probably a
decade or more. (Includes the only 29 tooth cassette sprocket Shimano
ever made.)

I wonder if David actually has a cassette...the Megarange 11-34
cassette exists, but it is quite uncommon. Most of the 7-speed
Megarange stuff is in the form of thread-on freewheels.

I don't believe that cassette is available through Shimano's UK importer
(and certainly not at that price).

That's even better than what I had in mind - with the 29. Thanks.

To answer other questions, the existing hub is a screw on but I have a
spare cassette and don't mind rebuilding the wheel.

I emailed Rose Versand, a major German mail-order catalogue, and this rather
useful touring cassette (that we've not seen over here for many a year) is
not old stock but remains a current item with Shimano's German distributor.
Rose take credit cards (unusual in Germany) and have lots of other useful
things, most of them at lower than UK prices. They even sell individual
Shimano sprockets so you can replace just the ones that are worn. That's
what I call service!

from the Shimano-europe pricelist. According to the manual it is for a 9
speed chain!

With Shimano gear I always get visions of a large meeting of nodding
Japanese engineers deciding what to do next. For the cassette they
probably had two committees 😉
