You mean this? Gotta love the final sentence - as if commuting cyclists create major traffic problems on a daily basis. It's pretty minor league stuff -like pushing buttons on already neurotic drivers to have even more tanties & hissy fits. yawn.

BEEFED-up bike lanes with special barriers between cars and cyclists are planned for Melbourne streets.

Melbourne City Council is considering a $400,000 trial of special "safe lanes" along the stretch of Swanston St linking the CBD and Melbourne University.
Under the scheme, bike lanes are moved closer to the footpath, with special median strips providing a buffer from parked cars and traffic.

Councillor Kevin Chamberlin said the Copenhagen-style system would boost safety for cyclists. If successful the system would be expanded across the city, he said.

But notes on draft plans seen by the Herald Sun suggest the system could create traffic problems.

I'm not worried about the cars along there.. it's the
hordes of peds that cause the problems.. Now it'll
be tram splitting between tram and barriers ;-)

What a bone idea, the last thing we need is to be relegated to the
gutter. And what's going to protect us from lemming pedestrians when
there's no room to swerve out?
