BROL censorship

Yeah I used to write essays in school with a fountain pen and my handwriting was sooo bad even I
cannot figure out what I wrote when I went back to proof it. My teachers used to give me near
perfect marks only cause I'd flash my Mensa membership card. They just assumed (fools) that I knew
about what I was writing. Even today teachers ask me why I never take lecture notes and all I can
say is, there is no point since I cannot decipher my own handwriting later on.

Nope.

When I wrote about all my negative experiences with my Bachetta Strada, Bacchetta was already a BROL
sponsor, and their banner was right on top of the forum pages. My post was allowed in, as were the
follow-ups, some of which were also negative.

I find it funny. BROL is a FREE provider of recumbent material that rivals magazines, yet we
complain if something with the FREE message boards does not go our way.

OT- Literacy means being able to read as well as write. The sentence is fine and makes sense. The
word, "censors," is a verb here, not referring to the people who censor, but the act of censoring:

"It appears BROL censors (verb) posts (that are) negative to his sponsors."

It is common, and in fact is now considered preferable, to drop out usages like "that are" from
sentences. As for the other editorial remarks, they’re right on. However, there is something about
writing emails and posts to newsgroups that seems to encourage these kinds of errors. Maybe it’s our
reliance these days on spell checkers, which of course can’t find such mistakes. As a writer and
student of language and rhetoric, I wonder about this, and what effect it may eventually have on our
languages as a whole.

Yeah...can be a tough crowd here sometimes, especially when it never stops snowing and cabin fever
has taken over. The Neanderthal one was mine, been trying to cutback on using the term Moron ever
since our Prime Minister's office said President G.W.Bush was a Moron.

BROL isn't usenet. It's a private web site established using the owners' money. As such that doesn't
give you, Alan, Ramjet or anyone else *every right* to post whatever you want to that site. Any of
you are free to take your own money, put up your on site, and control the content of it.

Josh, you should be in Med School instead of wasting your talent trying to come up with a good,
cheap trike.

Too Late...I already have Cheap trike number one and was told today Cheap trike #2 prototype will be
ready to start test riding by next weekend. I did write here back in October that I planned to test
ride the 2 trikes during the Winter to ensure they can handle it....I just did not expect Winter to
last forever.

It's Bryan and Jose's board. If anyone doesn't like their policies, they are completely at liberty
to start their own discussion forum, though I imagine that for the average carping anonymoid that
would be *way* too much like hard work.

P.S. What Ken said. I completely missed this thread on BROL due to having had the Lurgi for a couple
of days :-(

P. P.S. Surely Neanderthals would have spoken some variety of German?

Indeed, as do the present occupants of England ... since so much of the English language is derived
from Germanic speech. Not to mention the numerous words and phrases Norse, Roman and Norman
occupiers inserted into [the] English [so to speak].

Most likely the Neanderthals didn't speak any variety of modern languages, since those languages
showed up in Europe around the same time as agriculture.

Tch, details. The name derives from their being found in the Neander valley near Dusseldorf, hence
you'd imagine them to speak German, though a little digging reveals that they had relatives in
modern Belgium, Gibraltar, France, Croatia, Israel, Italy and the Crimea. Oh, and Iraq. The
significance of this latter is left as an Exercise for the Reader.

Since Gibraltar had not, at the time, become a British Crown Colony, it must be presumed that this
was at the time Spain, and therefore, as is still the case today, that these are the remains of
German Neanderthals, were there on holiday

Nice to know that I'm so... popular...

That thread was deleted because of personal threats made between two posters. It had nothing to do
with the bashing of my sponsors. Search my archives. I let plenty of that stuff slide. Most of my
sponsors read my boards and are plenty capable of defending themselves.

AA and Ramjet (the two posters who got banned) have been reinstated and both thanked me for the way
I handled it.

The only person banned from 'BROL is glend1234. At the time of his "banning" there was a VERY nasty
thread going on about guns. These same threads have cropped up here on a.r.b.r. as well. Again,
people were starting to threaten each other so I deleted the thread and posted a message telling
everyone to stay away from the topic for at least a little while. Glenn then started four gun
threads in one day. He thought it was funny. I didn't and still don't. I warned him twice before I
banned him.

I frequent a lot of message boards and feel confident in saying that mine is very liberal when
compared to some others.

I don't believe my eyes. An individual posts to this NG using improper grammar and is in turn
labeled a foreigner, a moron and a neanderthal.

The impression I got was more of readers here being curious what prompted the banning, than the
banning itself. Only one poster (I think) questioned the banning action and even then they were not
sure of what lead up to the ban being imposed. As for messages showing up on A.R.B.R. about guns,
the only ones I remember dealt with one guy talking about wasting a dog and the rest dealt with the
Mini-Guns used on Choppers. At one point it began to look like everyone in this NG was in the
Military or were retired from the Military or were in Jump School.

My take on this is, talking about guns is fine, talking about blowing away someone you are in
communication with on a Public access board is NOT fine and removing/banning anyone going that way
is perfectly justified.

Bryan --

Congratulations on having and using plain old common sense. That never goes out of style.
