Broken Base.Questions.

If I were you I'd definitely go for a CF base over another plastic seat
as you are just going to snap that next plastic seat just as fast if
not quicker as the level of your riding increases.

I know Scott is reworking his CF bases to fit the KH hardware (handles
and bumpers) better without spacers and he wouldn't be making his
handles and bases incompatible so to me it would only make sense that a
KH base should be able to fit the Deathgrip handle and CF bumper when
they go back into production. My only concern is that to really
comfortably hold the Deathgrip handle your seat needs needs to be at a
pretty significant angle and that may not be achievable on a UDC CF
base without a rail adapter.

Well it depends, personally I prefer the Scott Wallis base. The actual
base itself has much less curve and I really like the ability to use
the Thomson post and never have to worry about ruining it. Even the
best standard posts (pitfighter) are known to break. The adjustability
of the saddle is great too.

Scott also warranties his products so if you were to somehow break a
Wallis base he would either fix or replace it for you whereas with a
UDC base you would be out of luck. Though I don't think I've heard of
anyone breaking the UDC CF base.

But the UDC base it a direct model of the KH seat foam right??
It would have to be wouldent it???

And If i was to wait to get a sw base then i would be not able to ride
for as long as it takes for him to re-work his molds... which might be
a while....
im kinda in a fix...

I wouldn't wait for him to start making bases again. Go ahead and get
the UDC one, chances are that by the time he starts making his bases
again you will have another uni and can get the Wallis base too and
have a CF for each unicycle. 🙂

I have no idea how long it will take for him to start making them
again, no knows.

I've never drilled but I know filling is a pain in the ass. Its a
tricky process but I think people make a bigger deal about their first
one than they should.

No problem, you won't regret your purchase. After a splined setup, a CF
base is the best upgrade you can get. It really changes the feel of
your rides as they make the uni much more responsive and give you more
confidence with the harder tricks. I really don't like riding unis
which don't have one - the flex just feels horrible.

Great post, and great replies. Thank you for the info. I figgered it was
time to buy another uni, but after seeing the light, I figger I'd be
better off investing in a CF seat base and new seat on my main ride.
Looking through the how to page on installing a CF base I'm wondering
if it would be worthwhile to fiberglass over the bolt heads instead of
covering them with duct tape? Do you think the fitting the carriage
bolts in resin along with the cloth over the heads would make it less
resistant to splitting? Or is that even a concern?

NOOOOO!!!! dont do that.
I sheared to metal completely apaert on my dx saddle.
Like snapped the bolts like twigs and broke the post.
You dont wanna be left with a 100+ dollor base and some sheared bolts
stuck in fiberglass.
Its a baddddddd i dea!!! ill post pics if you want even. BAD.

install it for me, and get me new bolts....So if you live near

I gotcha. It makes sense to have a built in "weak point", and it may as
well be the bolts. It wouldn't be hard to just have a higher grade of
bolt, but then if it gets over stressed than the only other things that
could break would be more painful to replace than cheap bolts. Thanks.

Also a DG will not fit a Roger Davies base that great...I think it
works, just not as good....
