  1. I have been having a problem with VERY brittle fingernails for some time. Brittle to the point of
shattering into several pieces when I accidently strike a nail against a surface even lightly.

I was told that taking MSM would help. I have been taking 1000mg of MSM per day for about 6 months
now. While my fingernails no longer shatter like they did before, they still break FAR too easily.

Is there anything in particular that might be missing from my diet that might be causing
    the problem?

    Thanks

From the top of my head, health of nails and hair is suppored by (no particular order)

    - MSM
    - biotin
    - zinc
    - folate / folic acid (better take a B complex B 50 or so)
    - calcium
    - omega 3 fatty acids

You may want to go into a book shop and have look into Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible on nails and
    hair. It's a good starter.

Nails so brittle are probably the result of a deficiency in multiple areas, you should consider
getting some blood-work done to get a better idea of what is wrong. In the meantime I'd go with a
good high potency multivitamin with extra of the above.

    Regards,

    Andi

  4. Gelatin is also useful. I'd assume eggs and other high quality protein should be useful. Excess
brazil nuts can result in excess selenium which can weaken nails and cause them to split in layers.
Nail fungus can weaken nails, also.

Try Royal jelly or hemp oil.

    Worked wonder for my nails.

I started on royal jelly for a month, then went onto hemp oil..

    Best nails I've ever had.

Ho hum Jez "Few of us can easily surrender our belief that society must somehow make sense. The
thought that the State has lost its mind and is punishing so many innocent people is intolerable.
And so the evidence has to be internally denied."
