You get a lifetime guarantee with those don't you? So take them back,
if they're only 2 or 3 years old and been looked after as per
instructions, you'll get a replacement.

Was chatting to someone who also bought a goretex jacket about seven years
ago and has been getting a new jacket about every 2 years , as a replacement
at no charge, because they have all leaked.

Could we all get away with this to get the latest jackets, the shops just
accepted her returns and apparently sent them back to the manufacturer. If
nobody actually bought a jacket but just kept returning them would the
equipment manufacturers improve their quality?

My own experience however is slightly better, I bought a Berghaus goretex
jacket about twelve years ago which although it wets out in seriously wet
weather around the bottom of the sleeves is still doing sterling service
courtesy of a couple of reproofs..

So today I went up to my attic and got out an old waxed jacket, I don't

how I had managed to forget it. It's warm, waterproof, breathable and
actually looks nicer than all those plasticy bright coloured bags that
everyone else is wearing.

Warm, yes, but as for waterproof and breathable, choose any one. They
stay waterproof by having an impermeable layer of wax to keep the water
out, and it also keeps the water in. The lining soaks up the excess so
you don't generally notice it as condensation, but the lining means it's
also heavy and bulky.

I think most Goretex has a 3 year warranty?

Thinking of doing just that. My 8/9 year old goretex jacket is now
letting in water and a fellow club member is raving about his paramo
jacket not letting in a drop despite an eight hour day in the rain on
Bynack More recently. Apparently the jacket is about two hundred and
seventy quid but our club has a 20% discount night coming up soon with a
local retailer so I might take the plunge.
