It would be the territory occupied by Israel since 1973 in spite of repeated UN resolutions
requesting that they withdraw. The words "standard" and "double" spring to mind, though not
necessarily in that order. See also "Northern Cyprus, occupation of"Dave Larrington - legslarry.crosswinds.netlegslarry.crosswinds.netOpen ↗

So who is paying any attention to UN resolutions these days? It is now as defunct as the League of
Nations. Of course, it must seem more than unfair to the likes of you and your ilk that Israel would
destroy the house of a suicide-murderer in return for the mass murder of its' citizens. The only one
here with a double standard is yourself.

What innocent Palestinian would that be, and what occupied territory would that be, and what
violation of what international law would that be? As for basic human decency, you wouldn't know
what that was if it jumped up and bit you in the elbow. Why didn't you mention that idiot
American girl who managed to get herself run over by the bulldozer while you were at it, or did
that one slip by you? So you are anti-Israel and a Jew hater. So what else is new?Ed Dolan - Minnesota

I will not argue with an ideologue like yourself. You are not capable of rational discourse. You
are a propagandist for a point of view which most all Americans find repugnant and have
repeatedly rejected in their lives and at the polls. But that is not going to prevent me from
telling you what you are when you make unusually assinine statements, like sympathizing with
Palestinian suicide-murderers. I would like to see you gone from this newsgroup but [censored] like

Why don't you and Mr. Sherman get together somplace private and have a mutual admiration society.
Why inflict your love feast on the rest of us.
Ed Dolan - Minnesota
So let me get this straight. Iraq gets invaded for *possibly* not complying with UN resolutions for
twelve years. Israel and Turkey do not get invaded for definitely not complying with UN resolutions
for thirty years. And that's not a double standard. Right.

I may as well jump in here, why should you guys have all the fun?
So.. we are at a point where we can't criticize our president? When did we cross that line? With
Homeland Security Act I or II?

Ignore. Same folks that will spew about Clinton till the sun comes up.
Lets see...the IRA sets off bombs in cars outside of department stores and the brit army is in N.
Ireland. A palestinian detonates 10 kilos of plastique on a bus and the isreali army is in
palestine. I dunno, your Tony and our Dubya corrupted by too much power and even riding in the
warming spring isn't as much fun as it was before the world turned inside out. So, as the proper

Time is a significant factor here. The British (or rather the Normans who had already conquered
Britain) invaded Ireland in 1169. The treatment of the Irish by their conquerors over the following
few centuries is indefensible (particularly the treatment of Catholics following the outlawing of
Catholicism in Britain in the 16th century). However, after more than 8 centuries we have a
situation where a significant proportion of the population of Northern Ireland considers itself
British and wishes to remain under British rule. (I have no idea of the size of that proportion, nor
whether it's a majority or a minority).
Although I have always believed we'd be better off without the province of Northern Ireland, it
would be unfair to those who consider themselves British citizens to just pull out. A British
government abandoning Northern Ireland would almost be like a North American government insisting
that all Europeans should leave, because after all they've only been there for 500 years.
If the British had invaded Ireland only a few decades ago, and our troops were still pushing to gain
territory and forcing the people of Ireland out of their homes, then I would have no hesitation in
condemning their actions, as I condemn the actions of the Israeli invaders in Palestine.
But of course the situation is very different - British troops are not forcing the Irish out of
their homeland, not all Irish people want the British to leave, and we're certainly not continuing
to push for more and more land. Indeed, we returned most of Ireland to Irish rule under the treaty
of 1921, which the IRA then reneged on in 1969.

Doh! I mean of course "The English (or rather the Normans who had already conquered England)".
Because of course Scotland wasn't under English rule at the time.
Thought I'd better correct myself before some uppity Scot did it ;-)

Criticizing Republican Presidents (or "President"😉 is unpatriotic and borders on being treasonable.
Criticizing Democratic Presidents however, is patriotic.

Post your [censored] somewhere else, Mike.

OK, so now I have got it straight what you meant by double standard. Your logic is impeccable, but
the gist of my response to you was that UN resolutions have now become irrelevant. We are in Iraq
for a number of reasons. It was a huge mistake for Bush to go the UN in the first place, but who
would have suspected such treachery from France.
By the way, congradulations on having one of the greatest Prime Ministers in British history. It
seems when the chips are down Britain always manages to come up with a great Prime Minister. Mr.
Blair is in the same league as Thatcher and Churchill.

I will not discuss issues with Mr. Sherman because his views are repugnant, odious and obscene, but
there is a limit to what can be put up with. When he steps over the line of common decency I will
call him on it in terms that even he can understand, dense as he is. That is what I meant by
"telling you what you are". As far as I can tell from followinng his posts for the past year he has
never once given an inch on any issue no matter how cogent the arguments. He is an ideologue and a
propagandist and he is not susceptible to discussion despite appearances to the contrary. I have
more than made up my mind about him.

How did you know I was on medication? But you are right. I am on so many medications that I can
hardly keep track of them. Nontheless, it is damn annoying when someone always has to make a
wisecrack when an otherwise serious discussion is taking place. Why don't you jokesters just joke
with other jokesters and leave us serious people alone. Trust me on this - you are never funny!
