  1. good job, 45+ state rr champ.

  2. a buddy of mine was in there with you. he said it was not his cup of tea. he didn't like all the
conversation. so he turned around and went back. I just laughed and told him that's part of road
racing. coming from mountain bike racing he thinks if your not balls out for 4 hours of a 4 hour
    race then its not racing......

  3. That's the Colorado state champion, for the uninformed.

Mario should take a page from the Brett play book, re: sprinters getting over the climbs to be in
position to contest the finale. Of course, Brett doesn't think he's a sprinter! ;->

    Scott,

How could I possibly be a real sprinter when I had to use a 53-12? :-)

Something wrong with your derailler? Small cog not working?

Wrong. You can't take a [censored] at a bike race without hitting a Master's Fattie Stars 'n' Stripes
jersey. Life's Ultimate Goal is a Master's Fattie World Champ jersey.

I don't own anything smaller than a 12. What I meant was that a real sprinter would have been in one
of those trackie combinations. 50-17? Help me out here.

I know. Your comment was clever.

So how much faster would you have been if you had the 50-17 available? Sitting or standing?

Geez, Bret... that's a warm up gear for a weak junior. Nobody sprints in THAT small a gear!

I'm just impressed at how you get over the hills for a 'sprinter'. Maybe someday we'll have a
discussion as to whether you are a sprinter who can climb or a climber who can sprint.

I have my opinion, but will save it for rebuttal.

Is that the best you can do? You're talking about someone who endured a childhood of being called
    "Bret the Brat".

I've just won the 30+ race at Tuesday Night Worlds for the second week in a row. If Kurgan can claim
the rbr masters national championship with no results outside of his dreams, then I don't see why I
can't be rbr masters world champion on these admittedly skimpy results:

We had a tailwind, a slight downhill grade and I had a leadout. If anything I might have been faster
in a larger gear. I always stand in the sprint.

    WOW

Every time I think that I get to electronically hobnob with bike racers of this magnitude, I
    pinch myself.

I'm an all-rounder whose strength is sprinting, but who finds hilly races, breakaways and cyclocross
    more rewarding.

More rewarding??? You mean, compared to a bunch sprint? I suppose I agree with you, but it still
feels good to win and you seem to find a way to do that when the opportunity presents itself.

    B. Wide is right. It's more satisfying to win out of a small group or the best, solo.

How can you pronounce someone right for expressing an entirely qualitative, subjective preference?
You may both share the preference, but it doesn't make either of you "right".

I see sprinting as just a tie breaker. It's a nice trump card to have in your hand but it's much
better to win outright in a breakaway. I realize that's not entirely logical and would expect
sprinting specialists to disagree with that perspective.

On an aesthetic level, while I can enjoy the spectacle of a Cipo stage victory, it doesn't compare
to the magical beauty of a Simoni in full flight in the mountains. In a small way, I can sometimes
feel some of that magic in my own riding when I'm going especially well and so I strive to repeat
    the experience.
