  1. theguardian.comcyclist gino bartali holocaust museum video

i'm reading "road to valor", the biography of gino bartali's corageous humanitarian efforts (and he was by no means the only one) in fascist italy. admittedly, i would have been cheering coppi had i been a spectator at the races they contested, but i have to say bartali stands head and shoulders above the cut of most of us with what he risked as a gentleman while racing under that despicable regime.

    bravissimo, gino! bravissimo!

  2. Slovak : that book you're reading is on my Christmas list.

The reviews I've read all recommend it.
But like you I would have been a Coppi fan!

  3. finished the read and have to say that i enjoyed the book. bartali certainly deserves a good deal of recognition for the way in which he lead his life both on and off the bicycle. that said i'm not sure what to make of this biography. i have to grant that the authors had to deal with a lack of primary sources (so many of the participants having passed away without giving a full account of their associations with others in the network) and especially gino's reticence in telling his part. again, a major double plus good on gino's part because he felt that he only did what he should have and not due to some sort of heroic streak. his son captured his father's attitude nicely in the video. hope you enjoy the read, lim, and look forward to discussing the book. now to obtain the biography on coppi without paying full price.

  4. Nice info. I will read this book and thanks for sharing.

  5. you are welcome. i hope you enjoy the biography.
