"money is a concern too" - This puts a limit on your options. Discs are definitely out especially if you do not have disc-compatible hubs. Even with ones, Avid mechs, the seemingly de-facto standard for mech. disc-brakes, will cost you around $200. Get a good set of V-brakes and pads in your situation...

First things first, does your frame have disc mounts? If not, don't even bother.
When you say money is a concern, what sort of budget do you have? Bear in mind that for an upgrade you are going to have to replace the wheels (works out about the same price as getting new hubs laced to old rims with new spokes), levers and the brakes themselves. This becomes even more troublesome if your current levers are integrated with the shifters as you'll have to buy new shifters too.

Avid mechanicals so you can use your existing levers. I would just get a new set of wheels so you can have your old ones for the parts bin.
sounds like it more trouble then its worth "SuperSlinky" <[email hidden]> wrote in message "]news:[email hidden]...
