Brake hood covers

Depends on which brakes they are. Shimano 600 hoods are only available
with the levers included, as far as I can determine. $25.00 US.

They are an integrated part.

If your brakes are other than Shimano 600 your mileage may vary.

I got some 2 years ago for my 1984 Schwinn--at the local bike shop. They
had no problem ordering some. Try there, first.

lever before the integrated plastic and the gray non-drilled lever
face. Maybe that's what he's got.

These gum rubber hoods are more or less fungible. I recently bought a pair of
DiaCompe hoods and they fit my Campy top-cable levers. DiaCompe hoods are
still available.... What kind of brake levers you got?

I was picturing old, 70's Dia-Compe levers with
brown gutta-percha hood covers. I've got an old
"10-speed" (5-cog freewheel) with those, in
surprisingly good condition. I sometimes see them
on other old bikes, in various stages of disintegration.

Gutta-percha covers are actually quite comfortable,
especially in freezing temps.

It's a Miyata 912, which IIRC speced Shimano 600 brakes. I could
be wrong, I freely admit it in advance.

Those are the ones I have on my bike. They say '600' on the top, which
isn't visible in the picture.

Very nice, but much too new. The old Shimano 600 stuff is REALLY

I'm riding a set of those 600s myself, from 1979, seems that Dia-compe
hoods fit close enough to perfect, that's what I've got on mine

There's alway the fellers at Rivendell, they always seem to have funky
old hoods, but your bike shop shouldn't have a problem.

What I'd love to find is a good pair of the old Modolo "ergo" hoods. Those
were very comfy!

Try using handlebar tape, or Plasti-Dip.

I covered a pair of old, non-aero, levers with some lengths of split inner
tube, then wrapped bar tape over.
