  1. Hawthorn CC are having their Xmas Picnic BBQ - Sunday 11.12.05 12pm @ Yarra
Bend Park, Studley Park Boathouse...Very convenient time and place given the
BR usually finishes up on the boulie at around that time..ish... Free for
HCC members (or people who join on the day), I think its $10 for non
    members..

BR78 might be a trip to the 'nongs (omg wtf!?!) - Jayco Greater Dandenong
Crit Sun 18th Dec . See flyer for details.
http://www.blackburncycling.org.au/news/gdc.pdf Pros are teh rad, we have
to check em out... Timc - dare you to yell out to Cookie "real men ride a
    triple"... 😉

C'mon lurkers and new comers - time to get out on a BR for some great riding
on quiet roads.... BRs are only as hard as you want to make them... but if
you go off the front Ess and I will chase you down and make you pay!......
    maybe... 🙂

    cheers,
    GPL

I think that would be Dandenong, as in the suburb, not Dandenongs, as
    in Dandenong Ranges.

Heh. When I did the 1:20 the one and only time, I thought "what's all
this bad stuff I keep hearing about Dandenong? It's not so bad out
here. In fact, it's quite a nice place!".

Tim you went to the Dandenong ranges, not Dandenong the suburb. Dandy is south, near Springvale. A slightly different demographic 😉

I know that /now/. It was the complete lack of dunnydores that tipped
me off. Oh, and the lack of bad classical music being piped out of
horn speakers around every shop, to keep the bad elements away.

I should be on for this one. More than likely ill park near the boulie and
ride up to doncaster, and have an easy get-away ready if needed.

  10. Not sure if I'll be there tomorrow, left knee has pulled up sore from the grind up Mt Buller today. Thats a tough climb, esp the last bit...I miss my triple 🙁

I'll come to the BBQ anyway if I don't BR.

Saw JayWoo up there today, doing 3 Buller climbs in one day

  11. This lurker will be lurking in amongst the bushes along the Yarra river bouncing along on the Stumpjumper this Sundays dawns crack, but the pencil's out for more BRs that cometh....

PS: Beach Rd was pretty enthusiastic this morning, even the old guys were getting out of their seats on the flats.

  13. Good turnout today with 9 leaving Doncaster and a late Blah time
trialling till he caught us just before the main climb. Talk about a
    perfect day for a ride.

After dropping some weight and a decent amount of time trial practice at
Kew lately I decided I'd have a decent crack at my time for the
Warrandyte Climb. I was aiming for under 16 minutes with the plan being
to break my PB next week. I went out hard and was surprised TimC didn't
fall off his bike in shock when I overtook him near the start. I
generally go easy ont he first half and hard on the second but figured
that wasn't going to cut it. At the halfway mark I was well under time,
and then I hammered myself to the end only to see a time of 15:32, I'd
broken 16mins but missed my PB by 2 seconds (or so I thought). I was
absolutely spent, as the witnesses at the top will attest. It must have
been 3-4 minutes before I could even breathe properly.

The rest of the ride was standard fare, although I was shocked at
Hurstbridge where at two separate roundabouts the cars behind Con and I
stayed there till we got through. And the second shock was at Diamond
Creek where I had to do a right turn on a roundabout in front of
Commodore Club group and they all gave way to me (surely I was dreaming).

Anyway after getting home I started logging my stats and realised my old
PB for Warrandyte was 15:40. I'd broken it by 8 seconds without even
knowing it. WooHoo!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Of course that's nothing compared to
Gags's effort but it's made my day, and all that effort was worth it.

W00t, Dave! Well done. Good to know the hyperventilating display you
put on at the top wasn't in vain. Now you can look your kids in the eye
without that deep sense of shame we all thought was inevitable.
    Good stuff.

    DaveB

As Dave mentioned, I did a PB today on the Warrandyte climb. Started out at
what I thought was a pretty good pace until Dutch went past me. Jumped onto
his wheel and followed him for a couple of minutes but then he started to
fade..........had to decide what to do and went for the "have a crack"
option. Went past Dutch and lifted up a notch. Was going pretty well but
soon heard someone behind me (guessed it was GPL or Ess). Ended up being
GPL and he seemed to hang back around 5 metres or so until I was on one of
the steeper bits and then built up some speed so that he went by me pretty
quickly (I'm onto your game Llama boy!!!!!). I stayed with him for about
40m or so up to the top of the rise that we were on but then realised that I
was going to bonk if I kept that up for too long so I eased back a bit.
Basically smashed myself to the top and when I looked at the watch, it was
12:45......wooot!!! I am pretty sure that my previous best was 13:55 or
something that I did one time with Chris and Lindsay so I smashed that one.
I put it down to me losing about 5kg or so in the last 3 months or so and
doing a few hills on the 79.2 inch geared fixie.

Coffee was good and we seemed to take a bit longer than usual (probably the
great weather). Got going again and GPL went off the front for the Team TT.
The rest of us bunched up and waited for TimC and then started going. There
was a car sitting behind us and we were going pretty slow when Blah decided
to crank the pace and I followed him. We were hooting along and slowly
started to haul in GPL. I took a turn on the front and as I got within
about 15m or so of GPL, he got out of the saddle and tried to break away
again. He must have forgotten about the laws of gravity though that say
that my 97kg on a downhill will go quicker than his 72kg!!! (also, I knew
that once I bridged over to his wheel, I would get a rest). Managed to get
on his wheel and then wheelsucked for a couple of km before
"chooooowwwooooooo" - the BR train left the station and GPL didn't have a
ticket.....hehehe. Blah, Ess, and I ended up catching up with Con and DaveB
about 500m before the last roundabout before the rest stop and we were all
pretty stuffed by the time we stopped.

A rush of blood through Diamond Creek saw Dutchy draft a truck for a bit and
then we did the last climb before the run into Greensborough. I sat on
GPL's wheel at the start of the climb and about two thirds of the way up he
started waving his right elbow like a busted wing. I was busting a lung
just hanging onto his wheel and there was no way I was falling for the "you
go round now and I'll sit on your wheel and go past you just before the top
of the hill" routine so I declined the invitation. The next turning lane,
GPL actually pulled over so I had to go past and managed to stay in front of
him till the top of the hill (chalk one up for the gravitationally
    challenged crew).

Of course GPL will bleat (do llamas bleat??) about having a dodgy chain or
something but it only seemed to be dodgy when we passed him on the TTT and
when I was sitting on his wheel going up the hill 😉 Besides, I see your
dodgy chain and raise you a dodgy bike.........hehehehe.

    Ride On,

Gags (sorry for the gloating, but I doubt GPL will let it happen again!!!!!)

heh.. chain sorted.. I think.. bit of extra flexing with the chain breaker
this arvo did the trick.. Be sure to post your BR climb times up on
cycle2max... then check who holds those top spots :P

The good bike comes out for a play next week.. 🙂

I probably should point out, the only reason Con and I were in front at
that stage was the charity head start for hopeless cases at Smiths
Gully. How much head start did we get anyway? We thought we might get a
win to Watle Glen this time and were working well together for the first
time. But then Con started to put the hammer down and I was just hanging
on, I moved up for a token effort within about 1km of Wattle Glen, and
thinking we were gonn amake it, just in time to have the damned BR train
go by. Damn you GPL, you provided motivation for the others to work
together. 😉 I was counting on everyone trying to hurt each other.

    DaveB

  20. The head start was of standard length - dunno exactly, maybe 4 ish
minutes? We had a delayed start to proceedings when Tim had some sort
of mechanical just after leaving the general store. We rolled on down
the hill (GPL chose this point to attack (ish) and hared on down the
hill), waiting for Tim. He got on very late, after quite a few corners,
and we gave the call to go for it. At that point Bikesoiler was on the
front. No offense to Steve, but putting the hammer down isn't really
what he does (audax is what he does, a hell of a lot better than I
could imagine, I'm sure). A car came up behind us and seemed to just
park itself there. Nobody could really overtake due to the car and
Steve wasn't exactly charging along, so the start was quite delayed.
Eventually I looked around, saw that the car had no real intentions of
coming past, and pulled out to go around Steve, followed, I guess, by
    everyone. Then it was on.
