Since I don't expect it to rain tomorrow (it never rains on a BR), I

So, woss the new toy?

Since I'm still struggling to recover fitness after my holiday, I decided my second ever BR outing would be a good opportunity to test my legs on the hills rather than embarrassing myself on the 1 in 20. So an early start it was (6:30 departure for a 7:20 meet). Got to Shoppingtown first, where I was soon met by GPL riding his shiny (well, matt black actually) new Giant. He was extremely proud - not least of which because he'd built it himself yesterday afternoon and hadn't had a chance to ride it before that morning. Hell of a test ride mate! Soon Ess and TimC rocked up, and we headed off at about 7:30 when it was clear that FD was going to be a no-show (why is it you always stay away from BR's whenever I go - should I be offended???).

Not too much else to report from there on. GPL left us at Kangaroo Ground, claiming he wanted to make sure the bike was OK before taking it on a longer ride (there didn't seem to be any particularly important bits missing as he pedalled off). I was about to bail too given the crappy time I managed up the hill, but something made me keep going, although I took the shortcut to Smiths Gully since my body weight was by that time roughly the same as my riding companions combined. Jazmo and Anne (?) rocked up at the bakery just as we were leaving. "Is that it???" was Anne's comment when she saw the three of us - obviously Jaz had been hyping the BR up a little to her.

The TT section saw some nice turns into an annoying but not too severe headwind. After a couple of near misses with utes and 4x4's (which Tim dealt with eloquently), we made it safely up Burgundy Street, past the spot where I had the incident with the recumbent and back onto the Boulie. Tim and Ess turned off at Franklin Street heading to the TTT at Williamstown, and I was left to my usual perilous recovery ride down Chapel Street dodging mobile phone-wielding shopaholics. Back to St Kilda, which was in absolute gridlock - must be something to do with those damn runners (how did it go, Dave?), currently relaxing with a bit of Interpol. Total distance 101km, average speed 26.23.

Lots of riders out in the countryside today - must have be the run-off (geddit?) from Beach Road.

Well I had a strenuous circket match at greensborough this morning!🙄

Anna has been on a few BR rides. We've normally had greater numbers when she's come along.

Tell me about it. It was bizarre coming back from Smith's Gully. There were many riders doing the Warrandyte-Kangaroo Ground climb (and going down it). Saw quite a few going up the King Lake climb as well while coming back down.
