I figured if I couldn't get up at 6am and get out to Doncaster on the
long, long weekend, then when could I? At 7.30 nobody else had shown up
(races somewhere?), so off I went... Nothing much else to tell, really.
Good weather, no tools in cars, no probs. Needed to be back home kinda
early so I turned off after the big up (broke no records up the hill,
believe me!) and went through Eltham back towards the city. Got about
65kay plus in and just plain enjoyed being out on a bike for my first
Sunday in a few months. Ain't life grand?
So does everyone on the old BR roster race, work or sleep on Sundays
now? Weather's getting good...

I've been wondering, what does 'BR' stand for? (surely not 'bike ride'😉

So does everyone on the old BR roster race, work or sleep on Sundays
now? Weather's getting good...My last three BR's have been solo affairs so today I decided I'd go to
Beach Rd instead. Amazingly enough this was the first time I've ever
ridden Beach Rd outside of triathlons. I didn't get off to a good start
puncturing within 1km of hitting Beach Rd.While changing the flat I watched in disbelief as 5 solo cyclists in a
row ran a red light. But I that was up the Station Pier end of the road
and it was probably the last of the red light runners I saw for the ride
down to Black Rock and back. The bunches all seemed well organised. Is
that a difference between Sat and Sun or has that happened since the
pedestrian death and all teh media coverage? And with big groups
stopping it would be a brave solo rider taht ran the red light. The only annoyance I had was when I caught and passed a bunch of about
6. The front two riders didn't seem to appreciate so chased me down,
overtook me, then sat up so the rest of their group (which was totally
in pieces by now) could catch up. This happened twice so in the end I
just sat up for a few mins so they could go on ahead.Apart from that it was a good 80km ride, with a nice tail wind coming home.

I was intending to do the BR ride this week (yes Donga, BR does mean Bike Ride - sorry). I woke up at 7:00 am and was too tired to get up (went to bed past midnight). Went and did a few laps of the boulie later instead.
Will try again next week.

Aye, It IS Bunch Ride, Altho seeing as there was a full page articel in the AGE sunday mag talkin about bike-friendly cafes in the hills NE of Melb (rangin from YanYean, Hurstbridge to Kinglake) It was no surprise to see 'OUR' cafe get top billing!!!
We is/was ahead of our time, lads (and ladettes)

I have useful information after another saturday hill expedition with lama and others. The old hardware store on your left as you enter Kinglake has a chainsaw chainbreaker which can be used on bikes chains!😄 And an ambulance can make it down pidgeon bank road🙁
Plus there are a lot of Horse sprints on the way to and from Clintons road (THat's lama I got you this time!!!)

It was a dude in 'BikeNow' kit... Pete?... Just 15 seconds before he was telling people how steep it was, and that "guys, even I am scared" in a half joking way.. the smiles stopped when he lost the back, gathered it, lost it again - this time ending up on the grass on the 25%+ slope, off camber, on a corner, at about 40-50km/h. I was about 25m back and saw it all in slow-mo. He didnt hit anything, which was the best outcome because like the saying goes "its not how fast you are going, its how fast you stop..."...
He grabbed for his collarbone right away. We are not sure of the actual damage. The bike looked ok apart from the pancaked(?) front wheel.
The day did get better.... with three of the 'hard' claiming a 16:33 up Kinglake after racing to the top! Not cycle2max worthy as there were three of us working the climb.

The report is broken wrist and shoulder (??not collarbone though..) 6 weeks in cast.🙁
He was just hitting some top form after winning Shepparton and Ballarat (B Grade).
Anywho he's just happy that his new baum equipped with record is fine (except for the crumpled front wheel but that's a 6 year old mavic training wheel)

Hasn't stopped some poeple lodging their times in the past 😉
Thought the fact that it's going to be best time would generate some protests.

probabaly not much consolation to im now (but in 6mths it will be...)
Breaking the bones is far better than total dislocation/snapping of tendons in shoulder. The wrist 'may' be another story tho 🙁
Mine works as a really good weather forecaster.
