BR 21 To(morrow)day!

I'm in. I was supposed to do a Whittlesea ride today with a mate, but he
chickened out due to the forecast for showers. Turned out the morning
would have been great for riding, as opposed to the afternoon which has
been insane. Hopefully it will improve before tomorrow.

A good day for staying inside and sorting out my MTB BB and hubs. No
wonder I couldn't turn the cranks, the bearing cage seems to have self
destructed. Never seen anything like it, it seems to have torn itself apart.

I finally got around to doing my BB, Headset, and both hubs today....all of
them had heaps of water. Plenty came out of the bottom bracket shell as I
removed it (I reckon that the frame must have been about a quarter full of
water - thank god for sealed BBs). Once I had the BB, Seatpost, Headset all
out, I left the frame in a number of elevations so that each of the frame
tubes could drain out a bit better. I unblocked all the little holes that
are supposed to let the water out (and in I guess) and used the straw
attachment to spray some WD40 inside each of the tubes. I repacked the
wheel hubs and got everything else ready to go and I am going to put it all
back together tomorrow after giving the frame overnight to further dry out.

Needless to say I will probably be taking detours for a while rather than
riding through puddles again.

Gags and Geoff come down Greensborough Rd to Manningham Rd to the start
when they ride, but given that it is dark, cold, raining and possibly
hailing and probably pestilence thrown in for good measure, Gags is
probably out riding his bike right now and won't have time to respond. 🙂 .

you don't show up, then I will go on to Doncaster at about 0645h. I go down
Rosanna Rd, cut past the police station at Heidelburg onto Manningham Road,
and then follow Manningham Road all the way to the start point.

I will have on a Cannibal jersey that is half red, half blue and I will prob
be the only one waiting there at that time of morning.

be up pretty late studying).

Hi Gags,

Sounds like a good plan. If you dont see me by 6.45, than by all means go on
by yourself. I am coming from Mill Park, so will be riding from
Greensborough Rd direction. If the wheather is horrible, than I will
probably avoid the ride.

You can identify me by my bike- it is a bright orange Orbea with blue front
end, and with ritchey aero wheels. Trust me, you cant miss it! Look forward
to it.

I never stop in my quest to improve my knowledge.......(translation: My
study is employer funded so I am doing what I can while it is free so that
when I do leave my current employer, I will have more qualifications and
hopefully get a better paying job).

Ridiculous hours was when I was doing my undergrad Elec Eng degree. I was
getting paid to study full-time as well as getting paid to play AFL in
Canberra. I was obliged to train three nights a week for footy and by the
time I got back from training it would be about 9pm (bout 30 min to ride
home from training). I would have a shower and something to eat and then
study to about 0200h to 0230h before getting to bed. Would then wake up at
0600h to spend some time with the kids before riding to work....

I found that the body got used to it after a while although I would not be
able to sit still for too long around 6pm or else I would doze off. I
managed to do this a few times at the dinner table, and pretty regularly in
the middle of reading a story or playing a game on the floor with the kids
(I had a policy of not studying before the kids went to bed). As long as I
stayed awake past 7pm, I would be right for study that night (almost a
second wind would kick in).

Every two weeks or so I would have a non-footy night where I would get home
at about 5pm, have a shower and crash straight into bed for a solid 12hrs of
sleep. This was pretty well enough to recharge for the next 2 weeks or so.

When I stopped studying, I found that it took at least a couple of months
for the body to readjust to normal hours and I would be awake until 2am
nearly every night. If I went to bed earlier I would basically lie there
staring at the ceiling for a couple of hours before deciding that if I was
awake, I might as well be doing something. Did heaps of aimless web surfing
and Counterstrike during this period.

Gotta get back to study (last assign for year, due Wed).

I've tutored those undergrad Elec Eng people in the last few years,
covering all sorts of stuff from basic mechanics to solid state devices.
I don't think they do any study at all. I first tutored engineers (all
streams) in 2002 I think, and they were first years or second years, and
after working with them for a while I decided that I would not enter any
buildings or drive on any roads or use any devices etc etc designed and
constructed after 2005. It's nice to know that it's been a drop in
standards and it hasn't always been that way. I'm pretty sure my dad was
the studious type, so I've got two data points...

Also, the first graduands from the new postgrad med degree have been out
there for a couple of years now. Some of my co-undergrads have gone into
the degree... as a result of which I intend to maintain my policy of
"wait until it's bad enough to go to the hospital".

In 4th year computational physics I chose to use C++ instead of matlab
because I thought it would benefit me to become more familiar with C++.
I found that code worked much better if I wrote it when under the
influence of cheap wine from the local bottleshop.
