Bourbon and soda

Marcel drinks Ginger Ale and Bourbon. To me, Ginger Ale tastes like
spoiled Seltzer and Bourbon like rotten rotgut. In comparison, my
Scotch with an ice cube tastes great! L'Chaim to all of you!

My best friend serves up scotch on the rocks when I visit. I couldn't touch
the stuff if it weren't for the ice taming the sharp bite of 12-year-old
scotch (single malt?).

I tasted beer a couple of times, never more than a sip or two. It is
worse than Ginger Ale but not as bas as Bourbon.

IMO Soda is a nasty thing to add to Scotch. I don't mind it with a little
seltzer water, just the fizz without the salt.

Paradoxically, it has to be reasonably cheap scotch before
it tastes okay with soda. Something like Ballentines, Dawsons,

Margaret - my fatherwas an alcoholic and used to drink bourbon and
Coke. To this day, the smell of bourbon makes me queasy.

My husband drank Old Granddad bourbon and gingerale for years.

Ginger ale is in a different category than whisky and soda.
In maritime Canada I would drink whisky and Schweppes
Golden Ginger Ale, which is more substantial-tasting than
typical stateside products. It veers in the direction of
a Whisky Mac (Scotch and ginger wine).

Yes. I don't think seltzer would cause any complaints though.
But most sparkling mineral water (Crystal Geyser, etc.) is probably
not bubbly enough.

It does not mean soda like a coke or 7-up, just soda water (plain
carbonated water). Technically, "soda water" has small amount of salt
and other minerals added to try to imitate the taste of naturally
carbonated water that comes from some springs. In contrast, seltzer is
just plain water that has been carbonated. I prefer seltzer but still
use the term scotch and soda.

Some people do mix scotch with 7-up, ginger ale, etc. but I think that's
gross (unless you have really horrid scotch).

Neat is fine, but "bourbon with a splash" is also a classic drink.

I have developed a real fondness for Wild Turkey Rare Breed, their
single barrel offering.

FWIW, I drink most of my whiskey on the rocks and depending on which it
is, say bourbon which I find to be a bit 'sweet,' I like adding a dash
of bitters. Most often, I've got a Black Velvet & bitters on the rocks
for my evening relaxer(s). ;-)

I too am a Wild Turkey fan. It's my favorite bourbon. But, if you
check, you'll find Kentucky Spirit is their single barrel offering.
That's not to take anything away from Rare Breed, a fine bourbon in
its own right.
