Bottom bracket replacement

D'oh! I forgot to say clearly that the broken one was a cup-and-cone
one on a pretty old machine, and it is specifically the compatibility
of replacing that with a cartridge one that I was asking about...

I recently replaced a cup and cone BB with a sealed unit. Well the LBS did
the work. I have put about 1000km on it so far and no probs at all.

I am using it to reduce my own not inconsiderable bulk. So far so good.

I just replaced a 20-year old BB with a sealed campag veloce one. Worked
well, and at £6.50 a non-campy version of the six notch tool to fit it was
cheaper than getting a shop to do the work.

The cartridge ones are very easy to fit, just get the right length.

If you can, take BOTH cups off, grease well inside before you tap the
right one back on. Having thje frameset BB shell prepped, faced,
chased, will help BB longevity as well.

BBs are matched to crankset type, BB cups are matched to
frameset..which one do you have?
