You need a track bike, but they are very cheap, as there's nothing to them. Mine cost $250. Come down and have a look one evening. Lindsay the expert on this stuff.

Blame the US labor movement, circa 1930's and after, when many brave & hardy souls got their heads busted and were even killed fighting for better working conditions.
This as opposed to 16-hour days/7-days work week.
