  1. I'm thinking of doing a tour starting in Bordeaux and ending in Lyon. Has
anybody done this who could point me to a good route?
    - Thanks

    Have you seen:

    http://www-math.science.unitn.it/Bike/Countries/France/

Hopefully the Trento Bike pages will have some inspiring and useful
information. What type of terrain are you looking for? How much time
    and how direct a route?

I'd personally work my way up toward Clermont-Ferrand, taking in
Puy-de-Dome and St. Etienne, the Regional des Volcans, the Auvergne
    region, etc.

  3. I've started tours several times in Bordeaux, going south into Spain, east
    to the Dordogne etc.
    A tip,

if you cross the river to the east bank and head straight south along the
river you will come to a bike path which heads west for miles along an old
    railway line.
A good way out of the city.

  4. Yes, but I'm trying to get to Lyon - that's East. Do you know the name of
    the bike path?

  5. I remember seeing people at the top of Alpe d'Huez
two yrs ago wearing "Bordeaux to Alpe d'Huez" jersey .
I found that tour company's website

    http://www.wideopenroad.co.uk/G2V1.html

take you to Grenoble, which gets you in the vicinity of Lyon.
Perhaps you can use their tour route as some guideline
    and change to suit you.

  6. Sorry,

    I meant east.
Don't know the name but you cannot miss it. Follow the quay south and you
will come to it. As far as I remember it starts at a dead-end. It will take
you ten miles out or more.

considering that it only goes for 50 km or so it ain't going to be of much
help getting you to Lyon which is a bit further. France is a big country,
lots of possibly routes, get out your map.
