1. According to Tick (CN reporter) over at DPF, this link says Boonen's place has been searched 'in connection with "the doping affair concerning 'cross rider Tom Vanoppen".'

My computer's translation of the first paragraph:

    Quoted post said:

The police force is Wednesday binnengestapt in the parental house of TOMs Boonen in Retie. Searching would fit in with in the research of the drug affair around of the TOMs Vannoppen. That letter gazet of Antwerp and the importance of limburg. Boonen were not at home on the moment of searching.

I assume that Gazet van Antwerpen broke the news and HLN is simply reporting that fact. My Dutch is non-existent; is it his parents' place?

I don't know but Lefevere reacted again saying: "Its a private investigation as a team we have to distance ourselves."

Geez that’s a lot of confidence from the supercoach..... you'd think he'd be getting right in behind Tommy boy and protecting him....... I guess ever since Tom started banging a schoolgirl he's losing friends..... well I guess only those over 50 who's own daughters are the same age.... looks like Tom will be riding for Astana in 2011…. When his drug ban completes……

Maybe Betiini will get his chance to be team leader at the Ronde after all?

    Not good.

Not a good situation to have Tom Boonens parents house being searched and not good that his team manager is already, by the looks of things, trying to distance himself from Boonen.

I suppose we should await developments.

Await developments? Innocent until proven guilty? That's not the way it works round here Lim, you should know that. 🙂

I think it is getting to the stage where the UCI and governing bodies should get there house in order first. It is getting stupid, how many athletes have there house raided. They are trying to catch everyone without sufficient evidence which won't stand up. Stupid.

Isn't it a Belgian police investigation and not a UCI investigation?

Agreed these cyclist never lie.... they never use drugs.............. perhaps they should just raid the UCI & get the list of names of covered up positive tests ?

That only applies when they fail tests : then they're guilty until proven innocent 🙂

Yes. Many people seem ignorant to the fact that it is not the UCI doing most of the damage, but police agencies investigating criminal matters (OP, Oil for Drugs, Festina, etc.). UCI or doping agencies just deal with the fallout.

Agree to the extent that it is the civil authorities - in practically every instance (OP, Festina etc) - who uncover what was/is really going on.

If it was left to the UCI..........................wait a minute, isn't it because all this was left to the UCI after 1998 and that's why we're in the [censored] that we are ?

  16. This is very, very, very bad news. 🙁😠

Why do you say so Pete? Is it because of additional potential bad publicity to cycling, or is it just because you like Boonen?

Bad publicity, whatever the final outcome. Ugh.

And for the record, I always have liked Boonen (almost as much as I like Bettini!).

  19. It was a major earthquake for Belgium cycling today...

  20. Vannoppen confirms cocaine positive but denies involving Boonen
