Thanks Dutchy, I know there not cheap, and once I buy one I have it for life. The real question, is how many cartons of beer can you fit into one trailer.

YEP, I have investigated that one, and it seems really quite good. $279 delievered to my door, the only real difference if its made from square tubing and 700 grams heavier.

Buy a rickshaw.

Hmmm. . . if you can't get all your gear in panniers on two wheels,
especially in warm climates then you are carrying way too much cr@p. . .
most cycle tourers would not carry much more than 15-25kg of gear even when
camping in cold climates

Nothing against trailiers, come in handy if you are moving house. . .

Not to mention Xs baggage charges on airlines. . . .

Any particular reason for going south from Cairns to Brisbane?

The prevailing wind in winter is from the south - south-east.
Would rather have a tail wind than battle a headwind that gets worse after lunch if you are near the coast and the "sea breeze" kicks in.

I have looked at riding Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos and the time to ride there is around December apparently.

If you are in Townsville on the 27th of July there will be 200 other riders going to Cairns in the Children's Cancer Ride.

Err, is this for a weekend tour?
I've met and toured with people who carried less. One person once
claimed that all he needed was a good jacket instead of tent, sleeping
bag, etc. Didn't see him on too many tours though. Also met a person who
ENTIRE food supply was some rice concotion in a powdered milk tin.

Still split on location. I have travelled extensively throughout the world, and the one place I would return is Vietnam (I love it). I am constrained by my allocated annual leave, and I have to take it during July/Aug. I have travelled there during that time and the climate is fine. As for the other idea, going from Cairns to Brisbane, hadn't thought too much about it. I just thought riding home would be better then riding away from it (but have taken note of your idea).

I am not going to start the whole TRAILER vs PANNIER debate, I just personally believe that a trailer would get more use later on in my life (ie: taking kids, moving gear around at enduro races, longer solo rides, shopping etc etc). The ultimate answer to the argument is to hae both. That and I dare say my companion on the trip will not carry all her stuff, which leaves me to have an almost 65% - 35% split of weight between us.

Gags, Dutch etc etc......Brisbane is very nice, and I have settled into the riding scene quite well. No daylight savings is a pain, but the riding is fantastic. So many great MTB rides, road rides through rolling mtns, and I have put together a really good 'fixie' crew and we ride along the river. I haven't been on the board too much lately, but that will all change as of now!!

A long reply, so I appologise. I appear to have settled on a trailer idea, and I have done some serious investiagtion into the flyingfurniture.com copy of the BOB YAK.

AHEM! You "put together" what? ;-)

Still tentative about tomorrow's 100km, depends on start/finish times
meshing with other committments.
