Seriously, it really is a way of guaranteeing that you'll get picked on,
IMO.

I was bullied as a child , I won't accept it anymore, wherever i see it.
Anyone who now wants to try and pick on me because I'm wearing a writband
is gonna get a hell of a shock!

Sadly, I have an uncanny feeling that that would not have the desired
effect. In a perverse way I'm grateful, as my current assertiveness
stems directly from a desire to avoid such situations in the future.
That said, I wouldn't wish it on anyone, character building or
otherwise!

Ah well. It's easier to pick and choose your "friends" when your not a

So many times I have rewritten this response. I don't know what to say. I
agree it'd be great without bullying. But it exists. My teachers used to
bully me. I used to bully a few kids my age. I had bullies all around me,
they were bigger and better at it. One ended up playing for England. I've
used my age and experience to stop fights i've seen in the High Streets, on
trains or similar areas in my adult age.

I still use my size to my advantage. I'm lucky not to have been shot or
stabbed by a crazy bully.

I did learn how to run, lash out and run, or stand my ground.

I know people who are still bullied by lovers, workmates or others. I've
just learnt that I will not be around some people who are not worth knowing.
There again, at school I had no choice.

I also had two older brothers who were quite expert at 'whooping my ass'. I
learnt quick.

If I had kids, I'd want to hang, draw and quarter any bullies around my kids
.... but isn't that the same thing?

I woudn't describe it as anger, more a drive to make sure that the line
made and that the knowledge that steps backward only ever have the same
result. If there is gonna be a fight it might as well be at the beginning
rather than later when it's too late.

Same here. It was a shock to find out just how small, snide and
insignificant was the teacher who kicked a football in my face in my
last year of primary school. He tried to claim credit for my
subsequent achievements (good BEng. Hons) but I told him, absolutely
truthfully and with some force, that it had taken me nearly fifteen
years to recover form the damage that he did to my education.

My most vivid recollection of this man was his having me beaten in
front of the whole class because he "nearly knocked me off my bike" as
he came round a blind corner too fast. My dad was the cycling
proficiency instructor. And actually he wasn't even that close; the
problem was simply that he despised anyone who did not enjoy sport.

Yes, I got away with a lot more after I became bigger than the bullies
- one reason I am sure they are cowards :-/

No. That is the old "lioness protecting her brood" thing. A friend's
daughter was recently assaulted in Reading. Her "friends" - two lads
- walked off and left her to it; a nearby adult also failed to
intervene. If I found that my sons had done that there would be hell
to pay, but thankfully at present they both stick up for the underdog
(and for each other).

beat bullying? Doubt that will ever happen, not these days when bullies get
help, the victims ignored. It's politically incorrect to call a bully a
bully. He must have something wrong with him which causes him to bully.

Blue bands are not going to stop anything. This is behaviour, antisocial beahviour.

When some punks tried that [censored] in middleschool on me, the leader, several stone to my advantage, got a facefull of my fist and then had a second dose of cranial impact al la Sir Issacc Newton as his mellon kissed the earth. Blood flowed profusely from his nose and the clique of would be thugs parted before me like the Red Sea before Moses.

You have to break it early. Kids will gravitate to this problem but the answer is confronting it with superior force. Turning the other cheek only reinforces the problem. Blue bands don't.
