  1. I've complained about this before, but it's just bitten me again
    so I'll complain again.

AUK's website won't let non-members look up events more than
3 months in the future. This is a new feature this year.

I guess the idea is to encourage people to join. All it does
for me is make it much less likely that I'll do as many
    audaxes as normally. Grrrr.

This has been discussed on the AUK yahoo list (which is open to anyone
btw); it is intended to give some advantage to riders who join (as if
the wonderful magazine wasn't enough!). It is however possible to look
into the future by clicking the month letter on the LHS of the site (or
    was)

Have to say that the feature seems altogether reasonable to me - the whole
Audax set-up is, IMHO, very well run and the modest annual membership
contributes to running the technology as well as the mag etc .... remember,
to all intents and purposes the event entry fees, AFAIK, only cover the
costs of the events. Join now!

that is true, the only revenue from entry fees that goes to AUK is
Brevet card validation, insurance if used and badges/medals.

what he said; it's peanuts, if they did insurance as well it would be
worth joining instead of CTC. Sportives have apparently eaten into AUK
events a bit (even though the two complement each other perfectly IMO),
but dropping the compulsory mudguard rule has brought all sorts of new
riders into it, even if only as day riders.

I think that as well as the mudguard change the relaxation on beard
    requirement probably helps too ....

Only for men on solos - remains in force for trikes ... and the age
    threshold for sandals remains :-))

I don't really want to join though. I only ride two or three events a
yea, and don't find the magazine that interesing.

A much better way of encouraging people to join would be to charge
non-memeber two quid more per event or something. It wouldn't discourage
those who only ride a couple of events, but we would be able to find
    out when they are.

Thanks to the person who pointed out that you can still get the calendar
by clicking on the month letter without being a member. What **** witted
bit of web design is that though? What possible purpose does it server to
do it that way? Make one route members only, but another link on the same
page open, with no text at all to mention this difference. Grrr.

AUK are like the RTTC in this. Event info has to be free these days - trying
to charge for it is just a non-starter. The RTTC are worse of course in their
attempt to hang onto the revenue from their handbook.

I'm 28 with SPD sandals. Am I permitted to ride Audaxes?

I believe the webmaster will be along in a minute to explain; IIRC they
didn't want the whole calendar cloned elsewhere as it is fluid; for
example the Anfractuous is not in yet but is supposed to be occurung,
Gavin hasn't done all the paperwork yet (like mine)

Yebbut you can only log into the rttc one if you are wearing all balck
    ;-)

last time I did a season of TTing ISTR I was able to find out
everything I needed to know off the website except the entry fee, which
I got by phoning the organiser.

Do you have a beard? A ponytail?

They used to give full details, now they only give full details up till April.
After that they list the organiser + phone number but not address and entry
    fee.

Now I could ring the organiser and find out the extra details but I used
to organise our clubs '50' for three years, and I'd have been deeply
annoyed to get lots of people ringing me up to find out my address and the
fee just because of the disruption of it all.

Full event info should be as easy to find as possible IMO. After all, all
    events want riders don't they?

Sorry, but I have got a hub dynamo, Carradice saddlebag and Brooks saddle.
Is that enough, or is a Nexus dynohub not enough?

Only if you're able to bear frequent humiliation for your poor judgement.
They're a ruthless lot, those Audaxers.

Perhaps this is an attempt to stop non-members entering too far in
advance and filling the rides up. Members should get priority IMO but
presently there is no mechanism to ensure this. I'd be very annoyed if
I couldn't participate because an event was full of non AUKs,
thankfully the real rides, that is the 300 plusses are rarely full.

Eh? Wot? I thought insurance /was/ included in the membership - or is it
that the insurance applies only to AUK rides?

Doesn't matter to me anyway as I get CTC insurance through my club
    membership.

Except as someone else pointed out to me, you can still see events
in the future by clicking on the month letter. It's bonkers.

If you want members to have priority (fair enough) then make that
explicit; N rides allowed, members get listed first, two weeks
    before the ride say.

yes, in TT'ing to give a bigger prize (and make the marshalls freeze
their nads off for longer as a punishment for past poor times!) and in
AUK to offset the cost of hiring a hall/bribing a cafe to stay
open/erecting a marquee / getting in a few cases of booze for the
organisers etc etc. Or so you'd think.
