Woot!
Susan
Are you off Diabetic Meds?
Great HbA1c and I am curious as to if weight loss alone keeps you off meds.

Oh, yes. I've been off meds for a long time now.

I would not say just weight loss alone...diet (LC) and exercise.

Congratulations Roger.
Any chance you've had hs-CRP (high-sensitivity CRP) tests over
the last couple of years? A couple of months ago my husband had
his yearly physical and our doctor found his a little high
(prescribed taking aspirin and folic acid). My physical isn't
until July, when I'll have the same test done then. But I'm
already taking extra folic acid now due to recent reports on its
benefits.
It would be in interesting to see what people's hs-CRP levels
were who LC, non-LC, exercised, non-exercised, etc.

I don't remember if I had my CRP tested before I started low-carbing. So,
no baseline.
The tests I've had done since starting low carb have had it come in at < 1
and .75. I don't know whether the first test was hs-CRP (the results
didn't specify), but the second definitely was. Interestingly (or I
thought it was), my blood folate levels tested out quite high on the same
tests, so there may indeed be an inverse correlation between CRP and folic
acid. Naturally, as a low-carber, I don't eat most of the foods that are
typically fortified w/ folic acid and I'm none too good about taking
vitamins, but I do, however, eat a ridiculous amount of leafy greens. (The
salad ladies at the local farmers' market say I'm their best customer -
I'm still wondering if they mean overall, or just among people who aren't
buying for restaurants <g>😉
I was eating more sat. fat when I had those tests done than I do now
(major cabbage cooked in pork fat kick), and I was exercising
less consistently than now, but I'm a carless city dweller, so I've always
done a fair bit of walking.
I've been retested since I started working out more and eating less sat
fat, but I don't have those tests back from my Dr. yet. If there's
anything interesting I'll post it.
As a side-note, I made a particular point of looking for my CRP results
(and specifying that I wanted hs-CRP for the second test) because Andrew
Chung had suggested that the low-carb diet was likely to lead to elevated
CRP levels. Certainly not borne out by my experience.
Martha, and my HDL and Tris are pretty impressive, too.
