So, in just less than three short months Ive managed to lose 29 pounds,

THis means I dont have a leg to stand on in the doc's office regarding

    oh, happy day.

First of all, the weight loss is of benefit and shows you're on the
    right track.

Second, your TGLs came down a LOT, and they're a highly predictive CVD
risk marker, more so than TC or LDL. If you didn't fast for 12-14
hours before, the test, I'd run it again and do so. Everything but HDL
is sensitive to the length of the fast.

If you *did* fast that long, and *if* you've been eating very low carb,
then your FBG and TGLs suggest that you're highly insulin resistant
and/or even diabetic (FBG misses diagnosing most diabetics til long
after onset) and not well enough controlled. You may need to go lower
carb, or to take an insulin sensitizing supplement or drug.

In any case, if you are IR or DM, low carb is the *only* option for good
    control and improvements.

    Susan

  3. No, your HDL is better. Your triglycerides are much, much better. Your
glucose is not much better, but not worse. The fact that you have lost
weight and are continuing to do so, its wonderful. How long did you fast
for? Are you exercising? That will help lower your LDL.

You are panicking for no reason. Look again at how much your triglycerides
    lowered, BIG improvement

HDL is improved. It also contributed to your higher chol number, so it
ain't as bad as you think. Remember too that LDL itself as a good component
    and a bad component.

BG can vary a lot day to day...you may be diabetic, too. You need to get a

Your trigs are greatly improved. That's major.

3 months ain't long enough. Your upper teeth problem has been working over
time (despite what they said). You need to wait a full 6 months. I will help
if you lay off the doobies and stick to your LC plan strictly, plus add in

    WTF?

The 2002 edition of Atkins said to not test until you've
been low carbing for 3 months. The 1972, 1993 and 1999
editions said don't test until you've been low carbing
6 months. Even if you're not on the Atkins plan, this
time scale still applies to some extent.

You started right on 3 months ago, right? I
definitely think the 2002 version is too aggressive.

    Quoted message said:

Except for that whole reading-the-book thing I
guess, in which case he'll know about the 3
    and 6 month issues.

Note well that at the 6 month point the numbers
are supposed to be 80% of people seeing better
numbers. That still leaves 20% and there are
directions for that case. Paying close attention
to types of fats, limiting amounts of fat, etc.

    Yup, rough time.

Notice that your triglycerides went down. Almost any
methd that causes fat loss should do that. Triglycerides
are a way to transport fat. If there's a process storing
fat the count is high because that process is slow. If
there's a process burning fat the count is low because
the process is fast. Ketosis makes triglycerides plummet.

Heck, if that was me, after only 3 months of lowcarbing, I'd be happy about

No - HDL is considerably better. Can take a lot to shift that upwards,
you're doing a good job. Trigs are way better too. The only prob there is
the LDL - and you never know, that might be the extra-fluffy good stuff : )

The bg is pretty well identical to last time. It is too high. I wish you'd
talk to the doc about diabetes or insulin resistance - a Haemoglobin A1c
test would tell you what your average blood glucose levels have been over
the past few weeks, a better indicator of diabetes. You can get a similar
picture by buying a bg meter and testing at 90 mins after every meal.
Low-carbing is a good way of maintaining bg control, but you might need a
helping hand - metformin is cardioprotective as well as a good way of
    keeping bgs low, for instance.

120 is NOT normal unless you're a diabetic. 100 is the threshold for
impaired glucose tolerance. Most diabetics have terrible post meal bgs
for years before the fbg ever goes to 120, so it's a terrible diagnostic
    tool to rely on.

I just want to point out that your tests are a LOT better. You're
overlooking how very important a CVD marker triglycerides are. The
lower they are, and the higher the HDL, the less likely your LDL is to
be the small, dense type that oxidize and cause damage.

  16. And you can't look at the numbers individually. It's the ratios to each
other that are much more important. Lass' doctor should already know this
so he should be telling her that they're very good compared to her last set

    now 149.....was 253
    HDL
    now 50......was 43
    LDL
    now 130......was 107

    So....everything is WORSE except tri.
Blood glucose was too high ad still is.

    WTF?

THIS AInt gonna impress my doc too much with the "benefits" of LCing, I
    promise.

So, in just less than three short months Ive managed to lose 29 pounds,
most of my upper teeth and raised my cholesterol, too. Color me frickin
    thrilled.

THis means I dont have a leg to stand on in the doc's office regarding
"proving" to him that LCing is healthy. In fact, I expect he will see it
    as proof of the opposite

    oh, happy day.

Now...that's weird. On my lab sheet, it says normal is 60-90. My
friend, a nurse, says up to 110 is normal. Now,maybe 120 is normal. WTF?
Do they just pick a number arbitrarily and call it normal? Cool. Then I
pick 120 for normal---so Im FINE.

    jeeez...

  19. Susan---no, I didnt know that. Thanks. How can the trigs go down without
the total cholesterol going down, too? Arent they connected?

I just want to point out that your tests are a LOT better. You're
overlooking how very important a CVD marker triglycerides are. The lower
they are, and the higher the HDL, the less likely your LDL is to be the
small, dense type that oxidize and cause damage.
