blood draw while taking Aspirin

You'd better have a chat to your doc on this one. How is
your BP? How was it before commencing aspirin? Was the
aspirin prescribed by a doc initially, or did you self-
medicate? If the latter, I'd stop now but make an
appointment with the doc to discuss the excessive
bleeding anyway.

There are alternatives, like clopidogrel, but the doc is the
only one qualified to advise properly.

I don't take either, I use the red wine alternative for
heart health:-)

I presume that you take only one aspirin per day, as do many
coronary patients. I find that I bleed easier since I was
put on Plavix and aspirin daily 4 months ago. However, I
just swab the area with an alcohol pad, and it dries up.
However, it won't hurt you to discuss your aspirin with your
doctor, just to make sure that the aspirin won't interfere
with any other medication you are taking. Now, I don't even
drink a glass of water without consulting my doctor. 8^)

How much aspirin are you taking?

For daily (heart protective) use you normally are prescribed
a very low dose aspirin, often a 50-100 mg buffered aspirin,
not one of the 300-500mg over the counter analgesics.

I only get the result that you are describing if I take
300mg or more, and even then only for a few hours. If it
takes two weeks for your blood to return to normal when you
stop taking aspirin, it sounds as though you are taking far
too much; you maybe causing yourself serious damage,
particularly if it is not buffered.

I take only half an aspirin a day and it is more than enough
they say, and my bleeding stops pretty fast most of the
time. Some herbs can potentiate your problem though, things
like Ginkgo biloba, and even possibly omega 3 linoleic acid
supplements so check out your supplements if you have a
problem. Of course I don't poke much of a hole for my
freestyle meter strips, I only need a pinhead worth, not a
half gallon like some meters. Ok, I'm a bit prejudiced. I
think you need a pitch fork for some meters. Hope you don't
mind a bit of hyperbole. Regards, Ann

I suspect that your Doc will suggest a platelet check if you
share this info with him. Suggest you do so at your earliest
convenience.

suppose...

Hyperbole? You wouldn't be implying that anyone here would
ever ever exaggerate or stretch the truth in any way? I
mean, this is a serious medical support newsgroup where we
are all on our best behaviour and never ever ever go over
