Serious problem would be if anyone actually followed your asinine advice.
You look at what Om is taking, do a Google search so you can understand the
big words, advice discontinuing a prescription med with absolutely no
knowledge as to why he takes it or the dose or frequency, latch onto one
possible side effect of said drug to imagine a reason for his fat loss
plateau, then decide, with no evidence but your cartoon websites, that your
imagined problem would be corrected with increased vitamin C, without
knowing whether that is his problem, without knowing whether the Adderal is
causing that one particular side effect, and with no evidence that Adderal
in an ADD patients would even have that side effect or whether vitamin C
would affect cortisol in a Adderal-taking ADD patient.

I talk to my doctor. She is an Endocrinologist and yes, she knows what
    else I take.

And I run my own blood levels of Magnesium and Thyroid hormones
regularly and supply her with the information...

As much as I dislike taking stimulants, she highly recommended the
Adderall and it's drastically improved my life. I get more done, my
concentration at work has improved and it's easier live a normal life.
She was right about using it.

Everything was going smoothly until I started working split shifts! It
is the ONLY factor that has changed.

David is correct dear. And, for your info., the magnesium you can get in
"real" foods can still cause loose bowels. Supplementing it in a pill is
easier and, in fact, is LESS likely to cause diarrhea. Foods highest in
natural Magnesium are dark green leafy greens such as spinach and chard.
I'd have to consume truckloads of those to get the magnesium that I need.

Excess fiber from excess leafy greens will also cause diarrhea.

I've had the low magnesium problem for years. Do you think I've not
taken all factors into consideration and learned to deal with them? I
even know my own symptoms when my levels get low. Numbness and tingling
in my arms and hands, light headedness and a heart rate of about 130 bpm.

I vary the amount of Mag I take per day based on how I feel. 1,200 mg.
per day usually does it but if I pig out on the fresh swiss chard I grow
in my garden, I cut back for that day. I take more if I start
    experiencing symtoms.

Joanne, while I appreciate you trying to help, there is a time and place
for "allopathic" remedies and treatments. There are other meds the doc
would be getting me to take as well, but she and I both know the less,
the better so we go with the minimum of what I need for good physical
and mental health and she does not push.

She is excellent and more than willing for me to stick with nutritional
    therapy wherever possible.

Thanks, but before I jump into it, I need to do more research

new supplement, and not just because of the expense. ;-)

I believe that the person who owns the problem is one who must spend
their own time doing there own reserach.

I simply repeated the position of the Wellness community on Siberian
Ginseng (Russian Ginseng) ability to reduce Cortisol induced stress.

Having no background in the sciences I figured out how to research
medline some 7 years ago. I know how to search for exact phrases,
authors, and for journals in Medline. A person with a science
background should have no problem. Ha, ... Hah, Ha!

I was researching a problem yesterday on the ability of deep breathing/
exhalation/ forced breathing to lower heart rates. I had better luck
finding a relevant abstract searching Google than with Medline (since
the Science people behind Medline don't have a clue as how to set up a
good search engine). But, from that 1st abstract I turned up a half
dozen more good abstracts on Medline.

You will still have to make your own conclusion, something that science
people absolutely refuse to do. Doing so will make you a part of the
    Quacky Wellness Community. 🙂

Just thought that you might want to know. 🙂

Despite the general opinions that you are a NetKook, you seem to have
some good knowlege and advice on some items. While I don't entirely
agree with everything you post, there is enough evidence that you are
very experienced and well read about the use of natural therapies for me
    to appreciate your input.

There is a time and place for Allopathic treatments so I don't reject
them out of hand, but the number of prescription drug related deaths in
the US alone outnumbers the number of deaths due to highway accidents
each year, and I don't trust the drug companies in general either!

A happy balance between the two must be met, and care must be taken on
    both ends.

Careful reading and research is indeed the key!

    Cheers!

It's too bad, a real science based nutrition news group would be great.

Well, invasion is always possible. ;-)

It is also possible to find a few gems amoungst the pebbles....

Being a big believer in "nutritional" therapy and alternative health
care, I'll probably reserve judgement overall until I have been here
awhile and will probably drop back to lurking.

I know that modern medicine and common sense must be balanced, along
    with balanced nutrition.

I talked to my Dr. tonight about the issue finally and here was her
advice as she agreed that an increase in Cortisol was the most likely
    problem:

Cut carbs (I've already done that)
Cut calories if possible, (but I'm already at 1,000 to 1,200 per day so
    that's probably unwise)
Increase exercize. Probably my only option. I've just got to burn more
    calories somehow!

I've considered fasting for a week maybe. I know I can do that, but only
if I get desperate and I'm getting close! :-P Either that or lack of
sleep is messing with my brain. <lol>

My work schedule continues to suck. I worked a swing tonight, then I am
working two gravyard shifts the next to days, one day off, another
swing, then two days on 12 hour graveyard shifts! Then another day off
    followed by 4 swings.

This is probably going to continue for the next 2 months until we can
    train another night person.

    <sigh>

ahem ... Mr Brink suggests that the lurkers, posters and trollers of

you have two groups, which, whilst neither here nor there, is most
