He was undergeared. I'm guessing he averaged around 3W/kg.

I watched the organized Fargo Street Hill Climb one year.

One guy was allowed to try and climb it with his infant son in a
trailer. He lost momentum, and the trailer came unhitched - a spectator
caught it before the child could be injured. Later, they let him try
again - still with the kid in the trailer!!

The best one I saw was Rick Denman (who used to run the Encino
Velodrome). He came over with his camera bike - a honkin' big movie
camera mounted on the front end, and he rode the climb with his arms
crossed over his chest. I was impressed!

There are some unbelievable records for people riding the climb
repeatedly in one day. I think the current best is near (maybe over)
    100 repeats.

Today, I rode a street in eastern LA county just north of Whittier
called Belle River. My computer said I climbed a 20% max grade for
about 1/2 mile (800 meters), and I was quite proud of myself (and quite
    pooped).

The dopes should have put a dummy in the trailer rather than on the
    saddle :-)

That was my take, too. Gross stupidity from both the father and the
    organizers.
