How stupid are we to live here?
Apparently not as stupid as anyone living near Yellowstone in MT. I heard on the radio this morning that the temp was -42°F,

As Debbie pointed out in another thread, the cold acts as a preservative so we look younger, longer.

I just checked, and the temperature is *rising*. Woo-Hoo! It's actually a couple of degrees above 0 (Fahrenheit).

I don't care how young it makes us look! As soon as I can I'm heading south! The birds really know their stuff!...lol
Not all of them - I see bluebirds here in the dead of winter. There is nothing lovelier to see in the snow. Dee Dee
Actually, Cardinals in the snow are quite pretty 😉
Jill (if it's gonna be cold, at least let it snow!)
You're right; there's nothing prettier in the dead of winter. Cardinals AND bluebirds - 'twould be nice to see them side by side on a wintry day. It's possible. We have loads of cardinals. They hang out on the fence around the pool. I've seen 6+ at a time sitting there and in a snowy tree; they really stand out! Dee Dee

We have a pair (at least one pair) of Cardinals that hang out in our yard. The momma will spend time sitting on the window ledge of our van looking at herself in the side mirror. Then she hops up onto the mirror and looks around and then back to the window ledge. She keeps this up for half an hour or more. We haven't figured out what attracts her to this, but one male will sit on the tree branch outside our living room window staring at his reflection in the window...a very vain pair...lol...Sharon

I think we've already got it. I don't know what the temp has been the past couple of days but it is COLD. We're supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow tonight. At least there will be something to show for it 😉

Ouch. That is cold. It is -4C here this morning. That is not too hard totake. I remember about 15 years ago when I was working a midnight shift at this time of year and it was -30, and I worked outside :-(
Thirty years ago when I was newly graduated and having trouble finding a decent job a friend in Winnipeg told me there were lots of jobs out there and invited me to stay at his place if I wanted to look for a job. I got off the plane on Dec. 6 and it was -40, which the same in F and C. Everyone out there told me that it doesn't usually get that cold until later in the winter. I thought that if it ever gets that cold I did not want to live there. I had an excursion ticket, so I was stuck there for 12 days. It warmed up to -30.
I was also told that it is a dry cold so you don't feel it as much. Baloney. That may apply down to about -25, but -40 is damned cold. The relative humidity was over 80%, because it's too cold for any moisture to be in the air. They also claimed that people dress for the cold. That gave me the to opportunity to point out the complete absence of people outside. Our winters may be somewhat cold and miserable, but we can still go out and enjoy the outdoors without worrying about frostbite.
