The other day we took our oldest son (who just turned 8) to
the science museum in Raleigh to see The Titanic Artifact
Exhibit. For lunch we went to the cafe and I had a delicious
black bean burger. The patty was made from black beans and
I'm not sure what else. But, it was so good I want to make
it for myself at home. Anybody have a recipe for converting
black beans into burger patties?

recipe for converting black beans into burger patties? If you're making them because you like to make stuff like
that from scratch, that's very cool and I'm sure you'll find
a wealth of info on the net.If you're making them because of a perceived unavailablity,
I'd say check your local supermarket. I think they are sold
under the Morningstar Farms brand, which is a subsidiary or
a brand line of Kellog's.Jack Patties

. . One of the hospitals here in town serves a Black Bean
Burger with a Caribbean twist. I use my favorite Jerk
seasonings for the flavor profile in my copy cat version.
What was the flavor profile of the patties you enjoyed? They
just might be Morningtar or some other brand available from
the freezer case. Converting mashed cooked beans into a bean
patty is failrly straightforward. Mashed beans, necessary
seasonings, if needed some cracker meal and egg. Forming he
patty with a 1/2 or 1/3 cup measure helps with portion
control . Patties of equal size cook evenly and in the same
amount of time.~~~Gina~~~

Funny you should mention this. I found this recipe on the web and served it
(with pico de gallo instead of the sweet potato sauce) to my wife and her
vegetarian friend. It was very good:wholefoodsmarket.comwh blackbeancakes.hOpen ↗
tmlYou might try using a whole beaten egg instead of the egg
white to hold the mixture together, especially if you plan
to grill the burgers rather than bake them. You can cook the beans yourself easily enough - soak
overnight and drain (which will speed up the cooking but
isn't critical); cover with plenty of water, add an onion
and some bay leaves, bring to a boil, turn down to a simmer,
add salt after it has been simmering a while. Simmer until
tender (maybe 45 minutes if pre-soaked, longer if not). The recipe, expanded, might make a good non-meat loaf as
well.------------------------------------------------------------

to tweak the recipe to my liking. I'm just looking for some
recommendations. 🙂

How would I substitute dried beans for this? Would I need to
cook them after letting them soak overnight?

I live in Winnipeg Manitoba (dead center of the contenent)
middle of the great Plains.... a looong way from any
oceans.. About 100 miles Northwest of me there are some
bodies from the Titanic burried...in the town of Neepawa.--
Once during Prohibition I was forced to live for days on
nothing but food and water.

Exactly. Soak, simmer till tender, drain, then mash and use
per your recipe.

here. The web will give back a bunch of recipes, but no
opinions on them.
