So, a typical birthday for me has never been extravagant, but we've always
made a special "your request" birthday meal. My main course has varied
depending upon my mood, but it always ends up with a black forest cherry
cake. One of my favorites, and I only get it this one time a year. The
problem is that I'm having a hard time with the decision this year. Back in
January I had decided that if I was about 220 I would allow myself my
birthday meal. My birthday is April 3 (will be 35) and I will probably make
my goal. I'm excited about that, obviously, but now that I'm presented with
the reality of going off the diet, halting my losing, coming out of ketosis,
and probably quickly gaining back a bunch of weight (albeit, water), I'm not
so excited with the prospect. I have worked hard to this point. I know
about structured refeeds and such, but am just not sure. I haven't cheated
at all in this period and am not sure how, exactly, it will affect me. I
suppose if I do have the birthday meal, I'll have to start back in induction
again? Not an entertaining prospect. Unless someone has a good LC Black
Forest Cake recipe? 😉 I'm just looking for some constructive comments and
what everyone else has done in similar situations. I've been to a number of
parties and haven't had a problem, but this is just a bit different. Anyone
with some personal experience similar to this?
Thanks for any ideas,
Mark

LC cheesecake.
Pork Rind Cake.
Neither of those will result in water weight gain, but you can eat too much.

Modern research has determined that "Birthday Cake", ie: A highly
decorated sweet flour/fat/sugar based dessert, generally festooned with
YOUR name, has NO CALORIES, NO CARBS, AND NO FAT.Shocking? Sure.
But it appears, the joy felt once a year when we eat a piece of this
comestible surrounded by our loved ones immediately dissipates all
CALORIES, CARBS AND FAT!There are a few important caveats:
1. It must be YOUR birthday.
2. You must only have ONE birthday a year.
3. Cake must be consumed AFTER appropriate musical accompaniment ("Happy
Birthday" or "For He/She's a Jolly Good Fellow/Person" or the like).4. Candles, while low carb, low calorie and low fat must NOT be
consumed... especially when lit.5. BEWARE! Foods consumed before and after cake maintain their original
carb, fat and calorie count. This has been brought to you as a public service announcement.
Jennifer
Yes, the "Ice Cream AND Cake" variable was addressed in the study.
Should "Ice Cream AND Cake" be consumed, as separate items, each will
release HALF of it's calories, carbs and fats. So an option would be to
only eat the HALF that is now CCF-FREE. Determining which half is now
CCF-FREE is easy... it's the half closest to you.As for an "Ice Cream Cake" ie: Baskin Robbins/Haggan Daz/Carvel... normal
sized slices fall under the original CCF-FREE study and can be consumed
with pleasure.Hope that clears it up.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll see if I can find a decent chocolate
cake recipe and just make up some sort of equivalent. LC whipped cream is
easy, and I can get frozen cherries that are unsweetened. The only other
major ingredient is the kirschwasser and the nutrition information is here:
http://www.drinksmixer.com/desc564.html
If I don't have any other carbs that day, given that I can have about 50g of
carbs, I should be perfectly fine if I just have a piece.
Once I figure out the recipe and the carb counts, I'll be sure to post a
recipe here.
I think I had already decided I wasn't going off the diet, but I just needed
to think out loud about it. 🙂 I'm too invested in this weight loss thing
to let my birthday screw it up. I want to feel good about turning another
year older. LOLThanks!

Your way of eating should enhance your life, not interfere with it.
Birthdays are special days. If you want a special treat for your
special day, go for it. Just don't use it as an excuse to go off your
diet for more than that day! Enjoy your birthday, go back on the diet
the next day.FYI most diets fail because people can't stick to them. Nowadays,
people designing diet plans are adding "planned cheats" or "free
meals" to give people the psychological break they need to stick to
the diet all the other time. Knowing that you can occasionally "let
yourself go" makes it a lot easier to stick with the plan the rest of
the time. Also, the occasional shock to your system might actually
*help* you lose weight! -

I thought I had solved my problem with some powdered Erythritol, but it's
not available from the manufacturer for some reason. It's the only sugar
alcohol that hasn't bothered me. It's listed that way at the couple of
sites I found it. *sigh* I'll keep looking.

Thanks for any ideas,
MarkHey! I just posted about an article I read about a trend in restaurants
serving mini-desserts. Maybe you could do mini cakes! 2 or 3 bite
portions, one little cake for each guest. Here's a link to the front page with a picture of these cute little
desserts: http://www.ajc.com/living/content/living/index.htmlTo read the whole article you'd have to register. Personally, I think
mini-cakes would be the perfect solution to your dilemma. You'd get the
flavor you want, but the portion is so small it most likely won't
interfere at all with your dieting efforts, plus they're so darn cute
they're perfect for a party. -

start with this:
http://www.camacdonald.com/lc/Cookbook/0069.htmlwhip up your own whipped cream, from FRESH HEAVY CREAM.
use your unsweetened cherries that you sweeten with SPLENDA.

thickener rather than just simply adding bulk (someone please straighten me

There is no such thing as an essential carb.

There is no such thing as an essential carb.
Certain carb foods have important vitamins. Also, it is not proven that
there is no essential carb. It simply may not be discovered yet. Finally,
I doubt anyone is this society will never eat a carb. Cubit will have to
deal with eating carby foods sooner or later. He may as well learn to deal
with it.
