I've found that stationary biking helps as far as losing fat
in your abdomen area, but I won't say it really builds up
the ab muscles like weight training would.

In the off season.....doing too many squats and deadlifts
during riding season might have a negative effect. I've quit
doing squats and deads though I do continue to do leg
presses. Deads have too much impact on my lower back that
causes fatique while riding. Heavy squating would have a
similar effect, imo.
