Sat next to guy on a flight to Perpignan a while back, his bike was on
board. I asked him how he packed it. His reply was that he simply put
the bike in a single matress plastic cover and taped it up. As I go to
France about twice a year I have decided it would be so much easier to
get to mate's apartment some 25 miles from airport by bike than bother
with buses, taxis, trains and avoid the French habit of striking when
you least expect it. Had to come back via Girona last month.

Special advice for the carriage of bicycles
The pedals must be removed (or fixed inwards) and the handlebars must
be fixed sideways. The bike should be contained in a protective box or
bag. It is not necessary from a safety perspective to deflate typical
tyres found on bikes and wheelchairs for carriage in the hold.
However, to eliminate the small risk of them being damaged by
bursting, you may wish to deflate the tyres. Understandably this
decision may be influenced by how easily the tyres could be inflated
upon arrival.

Any experiences or comments regarding your experiences of taking bikes
with Ryanair would be much appreciated. Also apologies if this
question has been answered in the recent past but my experience with
Ryanair (mostly good I might add) means the goalposts are in a
constant, dynamic, ongoing, vertical/horizontal position realignment
situation - that is they keep moving the goalposts!
Cheers.
