  1. Just heard on the radio that a group of 6 cyclists were "mowed down" by
someone on the Gold Coast this morning. Apparently two were taken to
hospital and police are questioning the driver.

It's a busy time for cycling at the GC. After the Grand Prix Crit at
Southbank on Sunday gone, the Amy Gillett ride goes from Brissie to the
GC this saturday and then the second GP Crit is at the GC on Sunday.
Hence there are lots of elite riders hanging out at the GC, including
Robbie M. Of course, you would never have a preference for one rider
getting hit before another, but am I permitted to hope it wasn't
    Robbie?

    Cyclists hurt in ute collision

    December 06, 2006 12:21pm

FOUR cyclists were injured when they and a ute collided in a Gold Coast town
    this morning.
The accident happened at an intersection at Mermaid Beach about 6.50am
    (AEST).
The 45-year-old driver of the vehicle was driving through the intersection
when two of the cyclists hit the front of the vehicle and four struck its
    side, a police spokeswoman said.
She said two male cyclists, aged 37 and 56 years, were taken to the Gold
Coast Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two other cyclists received minor injuries including scratches and bruising.

Wow the way that was written you'd think a gang of marauding cyclists
    attacked the ute.

Yeah, bit of a contrast to the radio report. The radio used words like
"mowed down" and "driver being questioned" which made it sound like a
    possible road rage incident.

My thoughts exactly. Those naughty cyclists encircling the

Sounds like the ute and the cyclists were traveling perpendicular to each other. Sounds like someone ran a red light/stop sign. The report does not say which.
